    Hey folks,

I have 2 appointments tomorrow to try on dresses. Now, I dont really have any intention of buying the dresses as I am on a very tight budget and I have found one online that I like (£160 - wont beat that!!). I just wanted the experience in the shops because I want to try on some different styles to see what suits me. Is there any kind of etiquette I need to know? Ive chosen quite posh shops and I am not really all that posh. Should I dress up? Is it ok to wear big hold me in pants as not started diet yet?

I am a bit nervous that the folk that work there will be snobby.....

Also I heard they give you champagne? Is this true? :-)

they dont all give you champagne hun ...... in fact last year i was in a very high end designer shop (Carolina Herrera)
where they said they never gave out apart from water in case it got spilt on the dress. Dont tell them you have no intention of buying just ask them to note down the details for you and you will be intouch once you have thought about things.

Yeah, was thinking its not really a good idea to let them know I am just there for fun. It would be a shame to let the occasion pass without at least trying some dresses on :-) I dont think I'd be able to afford one from a shop though. I dont want to spend more than £200 max on the dress. Its only for one day and there are beautiful dresses online too

Nice underwear I would say coz they help you into the dress and you dont want to wear pants you are ashamed of haha

Dont worry about being posh. You are going there with the intention (they dont know youre not) of buying a wedding dress. They will ask you when you are getting married and will take you seriously when then find out you only have 10 months to go.

Enjoy it! I loved trying on dresses and being told I looked lovely etc

the wedding shops know its a big decsion for any bride to buy there dress. when you go in there just say that your looking and that your not sure wot style suits you. they will let u try the dresses on and if you find one u like just get the details. i have been to alot of shops and never felt pressured to buy anything, if i say i like it they recommend coming back to try again to make sue its the one. and dont worry bout the pants thing they have seen so many women in their underwear they wont mention it.

I'd say have your holdy in pants and a nice bra, do your hair and make up nice because you'll be able to see what you'll look like. Plus you'll be able to see in that style you have chosen online looks good on you or if you find a different style in the shop. I went to I don't know how many bridal shops when I was picking my dress, I only found one rude shop where the woman was vile and so we just walked out. I don't think any normal shops will care if you are posh or not, they are mostly always lovely to you anyway as they want a sale!

yeah but like rah said they see hundreds of women in their underwear wouldn't it be better to have a nicer silhouette in the dress?

I am on my period at the moment so I am inclined to wear my black hold-me-in shorts because I am paranoid about, well you know. Would rather be totally covered :-)

I have never even been in a wedding dress shop before! Its exciting! I have 3 girlies going with me, will that be ok do you think?

Hehe dont worry hun dont tell them that your not going to buy only let them know which style your interested in that it is your first time to try one a dress :) they will either pick different things you might like or dresses they think would suit you :)
got offered in one shop tee/coffee but they had space and a table far away from the dresses never had chance to drink it during the trying of the dresses... ended up drinking it cold at the end *never mind* u will defo feel like a princess :) tbh i haven't been wearing any foundation/make ups as i didnt wanna ruin the dresses with itor my make up it self :)

All shops are different. One made me take my shoes off and another i had to wear gloves to look at the dresses.

A good shop will not badger you to buy a dress, they will advise you on styles etc and give you details/quotes. Try and walk around in the dresses to see how easy(or not) it is. take strapless and normal bra so you can try on both styles.

The ones i hated were the shops where the assistants said every dress looked fantasic and tried to sell me a dress that was sooooo wrong for my height.

everyone is different. Its up to you what you wear.
wear nice underwear that you feel nice in (that also means the holding in pants) or dont. I know they have seen it all before but if you feel more confident it will show and thats what matters. If you feel pretty you will feel happy.

Petra was asking for advice and I gave advice from my own experience and put a small joke in too but I do not like being made to feel like I had given wrong advice. I stand by wearing nice undies - going from advice of my Nan.

    Thank you

lol joey my gran always tells me to wear nice matching underwear too just incase I get run over (?)

I'd say wear underwear similar to what you're likely to wear on the day then you'll get a better idea. If you'd wear sook me ins then wear them going there, if not there's not much point!

I loved my experience last week - was a bit concerned with being plus size but they honestly couldnt have been lovelier, let me rifle through the dresses and gave my bm's coffee while they were waiting, such a nice experience (with a range of dresses in bigger sizes too!)

    Enjoy x

I go to the wrong shops - ive never been offered a drink and most of them just leave the dress for me to get into so dont even see me in my undies!!

The first one I went to only offered water and got me to step in, the last one (only been to two) offered the coffee and I had 2 people helping me into the dresses... the main fitter and a tall assistant to help take the dress off (I'm 5'9"). Cant wait to go again! They're better off being nice anyway - I'm of the thinking now that even if I did find the dress I loved elsewhere, Id probably see about ordering from the last shop I went to as the experience was so lovely x

joey i think you have taken offence too easily. i just wrote my opinion, as you did and then you said "but..." which was questioning my opinion. i don't think its really an issue.

As long as your underoos are clean and tidy you cant go wrong. Just try not to do and 'Lady Topiary' that day like my friend did. She hadnt realised the razor had slipped and had blood on the crease of her leg and knickers! Lovely!

oh no how embarrassing - maybe if you havent done your "lady topiary", wear the big knickers rather than taking to the razor :s

The best advice is just to enjoy the day, I think. I went round loads of shops and wedding fairs trying on my dress and instead ended up getting mine which is A-Line/Princess Sweetheart Chapel Train Satin Wedding Dress with Embroidery Beadwork with a Garment bag all for £150.00 off the internet. xx

Hey everyone, I had a brilliant day. Ive found 2 dresses that I just adored. They were stunning. Unfortunately, the price is way too high. Going to post a new forum about online dress advice. The one I want is £1300 in the shop and its absolutely stunning. I am stuck now!!
