Searched for a thread that discussed this but it was way back in 2013 so hope you don't mind I made a new one.
What do you all think about music through out dinner? Do you think it is needed? I honestly can't remember if there has been any at weddings I have been too but worried it will be silent lol. x

We never had any as people were chatting, but if you do have it on quietly and possibly instrumental music,

Not everyone does, but we decided to. Our dj played a selection of popular love songs like ed Sheehan and Christina Perry etc in the background. It was nice as I've been to weddings where it's either too loud to talk over, or no music at all so you could hear nothing but people eating.
Each to their own though.

I think it's nice to have background music, to me music is a big part of any wedding and really adds to atmosphere

I'm having music in the background but just on a music player very quietly and just a playlist we make.
We've made the playlist practically we just keep adding new ideas to it. It's basically a mix of all the songs we've considered for our first dance
Thats a really good idea Becci think that might be something we could do. We are already paying a fortune for a harpist for the drinks reception. x

We had an iPod playlist through a speaker, it was quite fun actually. Every now and again we caught people bobbing their heads in time with it.

I never really thought about that but I might suggest to OH we have an iPod or something playing in the background. Not sure what with though. Maybe just a mix of our favourite songs

It was the harpist that brought it to my attention to be honest, she asked if we wanted her to play on after the drinks reception during the wedding breakfast. Seeing as we are already wayyy over budget I think playing some of our fav songs in the background will do the job x

Definitely a good idea, doesn't have to be on very loud just enough to give the room a nice ambience

We're having a harpist play through the wedding breakfast. I think it will just create a lovely atmosphere. If we didn't have a harpist I would def create a playlist to play in the background.

I remember at my cousins wedding they had a harpist during the drinks reception but I cant remember them playing. we were all just chatting and having fun.
When my other cousin got married they didn't have anything and didn't notice anything lacking. If we have a playlist I would be tempted to have classical music rather than songs. My nan was very strict on manners and singing at the dinner table was a bug bear of hers so wouldn't want songs playing just in case

I think as everyone will be chatting with everyone else they won't really notice any music in the bacground unless it is blaring.

We are having the harpist at the ceremony and drinks reception, feel like people would be harped out for dinner time lol. I am going to talk to OH about music during dinner when he gets back from London :)
Its amazing what new things I can find to stress about when OH is gone for a few days lol xx

I think we will just do an acoustic playlist on an ip0d and have that playing in the background quietly. We need something to drown out the sound of people eating their pork crackling! X

i think its a good idea just to have some music in the background maybe just a mix of soft songs

We put together our own playlist for the wedding breakfast of classical music, which we just played on a laptop in the corner. When we set it up and tested it the previous day it worked very well, but on the day it was barely audible, whether because the sound system hadn't been turned up as much or because of the general chatter. We were disappointed as we'd expected it to be there, and we'd planned a particular piece to enter to which wasn't heard over applause, but in all honesty I don't think it was really missed, so it's certainly not essential. Some DJ packages include background music for the wedding breakfast anyway. I would say either have it fairly loud so that it can be heard over people chatting, as there will be a lot of chatter, or don't bother with it at all.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.

Music is really important to me so we had a cd on in the background, just some classical piano music.
