I found a venue quite close and at a very reasonable price too.

We provisionally booked our date for July 2016 which was able to be kept for 2weeks, 1 week in and it all starts to go wrong!

My ither half has just said there is a company that does 18 seater hummers. He then said just thinking why don't we hire 2 of those and get everyone and just go down to gretna!!!!!! All because my dad is wondering why the venue want over 30% (£650) deposit to secure the booking, as first discussed the guy said it would be aprox 20%. So my dad is going back to the venue tomorrow to speak to the guy and pay a deposit. And the registrar is just over 300! My dad didn't think it would be that expensive.... yet my other half is looking at a band that costs about 1200!!!!!

I Had to pay £1500 deposit on my venue and the registrar was £375 which was paid direct to them. Your deposit sounds very reasonable.

I think before you pay any deposits you need to sit down and really think about and research how much weddings cost. You can have weddings cheaper, but it depends exactly what you want.

Bands do tend to cost quite a bit and the registrar is also quite expensive. Think about everything else you will want and look at how much that will cost, as the word wedding does add cost to certain things.

£650 doesn't seem bad as a deposit to pay on a venue, we had to pay £1500 and we have another £3000 due next month

It also doesn't sound like you really know what you want, if you other half is on one hand talking about hiring cars to go down to Gretna and on the other talking about a band.

Your deposits do sound very reasonable, I had to pay £500 to confirm the date and the registrar is costing 425.

I think you need to be sure what you want before paying anything as you won't get any deposits back if you change your mind. I had a budget in mind before I looked into anything as the costs expects and unexpected do add up. X

They sound ok to me too but I do think Donna is right and that you should sit down and research wedding coats together so that you are both on hitherto same page and sure of what you want so only book what is necessary x

As echoed above, your deposits are reasonable. We paid a £1000 deposit to our venue and our registrar is going to cost about £500. Definitely sit down and research the costs of everything you want so you don't get any more nasty surprises in the future. Is your dad paying for everything? x

My venue is costing £5000. My deposit was £1500 with another £1500 due in October this year. Like the other girls have said I think you need to sit down and have a chat about exactly what you both want from a wedding and what you both want to spend as it seems you don't have a clear idea x
