So we set our date for 11/11/17. We paid a deposit to a venue in my surrounding area but they have been so useless not answering texts / calls or emails. Its takes ages for them to get back to us! There isnt a written contract at this point just a estimation of costs with no mention of dates which it should all be paid for. The whole no contact thing has started to stress me out and im thinking when it gets to months before the wedding if the contact is this crap ill be going a bit fruit loopy! Id ideally want to cancel because of this but i have no contract to look at to say what im going to get back! The deposit was a huge chunk. Where so i stand? Ive tried ringing them again today saying its very urgent but again no contact.
Does anyone know legally where i would stand? Without there being a written contract. Our wedding is booked for Nov 2017 so ample amounts of time for notice. We have no wedding insurance as we were only in the early stages of planning :-/

I don't know where you stand legally, but have you got a receipt for the deposit?

I don't know about the legal stuff either but I suggest you get wedding insurance asap. I got mine from D3bs and it was valid for anything already booked up to 2 years before the date I think. I don't know how they would be if you didn't have a contract or were cancelling because of poor contact from the venue but it might be worth looking into as there may be a chnace the insurance would cover something like that. OH paid via bank. Unless they have something printed there end as i said the contact has been really poor :-( it was 2k so alot to us on a budget!
Not as if they are a new venue they have really good reviews but so far all contact has been limited!

Leanne, is it worth paying them a visit? We had a contract to sign to read over before we paid the deposit.
Our venue has now told us, that they do not need to make contact with us again until November this year - we are also getting married next November.
We purchased insurance as soon as our venue was booked.
Hope you manage to get it sorted lovely.
    Keep us updated.

Looking forward to becoming the 3rd and last Mrs McLauchlan

Crikey. Doesn't sound ideal. We read and signed our contract before handing over the deposit so we knew exactly where we stood. I read an article in the paper recently that you may want to read if you say you paid a hefty deposit. Your venue may have breached consumer law. Just g0oG1€ - D@i1y M@lL article no 3473138. Meantime I would do as Maxine suggests and go see them in person. Also please get yourself insurance. I had already booked a few things before I got ours and was pleased to see they would also be covered.

Id thought it would invalidate insurance to be honest. As we havent got the goods if you get me or planned to cancel prior!
Maxine you know the venue. . They are not con people lol but i feel their contact has been so sh*ty!!
Im at my end. My oh is going to visit them tomorrow! But as we paid 2k we was thinking should they take anything as the date was so far in advance!

You may be okay as some places put a timeframe on when a deposit can be returned - ie if you cancel over 3 months before the deposit will be returned any later than it's non-returnable.

I'd definitely go see them, the date should of been set in stone before they asked you to pay the deposit, if you go, don't leave without a written contract :) x

Leanne, its not too late to takeout insurance.
We had to pay 25% of our total cost as the deposit. Did they ask for the £2k? Or was it a voluntary payment amount. If you paid y bank transfer, you should be ok. Make sure your OH gets a receipt for what you have already paid too.
Really hope you get it sorted, as it is a lovely venue x

Looking forward to becoming the 3rd and last Mrs McLauchlan

In the end we decided to cancel. Took us a email that read Urgent as a subject! We have our full deposit back and decided to go abroad and bring the wedding forward to early May next year!
