I'm new to UKbride but I need opinions! Me and HTB have found a venue, we went to a wedding fayre there and just fell in love. All the staff seemed really nice and friendly and the building is stunning. SO, after speaking to both sets of parents we decided to book in a show around so we can put down a deposit etc. On monday I rang the number on the brochure and spoke to a very grumpy sounding guy who asked when we wanted the show around. I'm a student nurse and HTB work 14 hour days so we asked for the weekend. The guy sighed then started saying how that was difficult because they only do it for one hour a day over the weekend etc (not really my problem...) then said he'd take my number and someone would get back to me.... FRIDAY - still no-one has rung so I rang them and got the same guy who didn't apologise and just said they'd been really busy so I should ring back monday.
Not being rude, but the venue isn't the cheapest, would have thought they would have better customer service! If they're too busy to even ring me back to book a show around how can they organise a wedding - no doubt this will all change once they get some money out of us! Not impressed so far but love the venue - what to do?? (p.s. sorry for the long post!)

I agree with Clarebella... First impressions are so important. Yours hasn't been a good one. Scrap that venue. I'm sure you can find something just as beautiful and in the same price region

I would leave it.
One venue we loved the look of online, so sent them an email asking for a look around, with a couple of specific questions about would they allow this/that, would they be available for our dates, etc.
The email I received back a week later merely said "xxx date at 10am". No Dear such and such, no answer to my questions...so we didn't bother.
The venue we've gone with could not be more helpful and friendly...you'll know when you get the right one ;)

I'm inclined to agree, is it the first one you looked around at the fair?? Sometimes its worth it to look around a few before jumping in and they dont seem that bothered about basic customer service never mind full day service for your wedding! Hope you find somewhere else you love just as much, thats its cheaper and that the staff are fab!!! xx

when you finally get to look round i would mention how disappointed you were with their service, they might offer a discount. but if they're just as rude in person, i would look elsewhere x

Debz, I agree with the rest, 1st Impressions are paramount, and this guy wants sacking if he's so grumpy
I found my venue thru a internet site, google wedding venues com, and that site you can choose location area, location town, location type (even submarine aparently lol)
And you will find loads of places to look around, and even get brochures from them
My venue cannot be more supportive, they have a reputation to keep and their books are very busy, even my suppliers love my venue and always saying how nice it is. Also if you use the recommended suppliers that your venue recommend, they usually work so closely with your venue and thus like the photographer will know where he / she can get the best shots for your album
Good luck and congrats on ya engagement

I'm starting to agree with you all. I'm really surprised they weren't more helpful. However, when we went on the day to the fayre we spoke to a lady who was lovely and after rooting around I've found her card with her direct number on it. I think I'm going to phone that and bypass the general office. If I still don't get anywhere then I think it's time to look for somewhere else! xxxx

Calling the wedding coordinator direct may help. Good luck!

I went to a venue that was 2k more than the one we ended up booking but too be honest I wasn't impressed. They never greeted us all that well at reception. The lady was late to come and show us around. We would have to share the bar etc etc etc. I thought do I really want this for my big day? NO! In the end I got a better venue in which they are all helpful and polite even after they have had our money. Service is just as important on your big day as the place itself. I'm sure you can find another that is just as pretty yet will either be cheaper or better service for your money.

I think you should visit and ask to see manager or event co-ordinator who should be more helpful. I imagine the guy you are getting on the phone is problem reception or possibly bar staff etc, so won't care about the first impression he gives off.
I would also mention to manager etc when you visit of your problems to date and lay down the law of what you expect before you book. Like you said its a lot of money, but if you have fallen in love with the venue, chances are nothing will match up to it.
Good luck xx

Don't give up, 1 guy may not reflect the true venue, call & tell them you were v keen but have so far been unhappy with the service you've received. If u remain calm but firm, they may offer u a better deal for ur inconvenience! I do this all the time hee hee

I'd ring them tell them my issues then tell them they've lost a sale due to an unprofessional little moron on the end of the phone
