I'm new to the site and just wanted to ask a quick question around a venues recommended suppliers as we're having some issues with our venue at the moment!
We originally booked our wedding back in Feb 2015 in preparation for our wedding this May and are now finalising the last of our suppliers including. Caterers.
Has anyone ever had any issues with venues "enforcing" the use of one of "their caterers" I.e. recommended caterers? Our venue aren't budging on this at all and are not allowing us to select a caterer outside of their recommended list despite the fact none of them suit our budget or requirements.
The venue have stated that it's in their contract that we categorically HAVE to use one of them, however it does not specifically state this - furthermore we asked at our initial meeting with the venue if they had specific vendors we had to use, which we were told no!
Any advice?!? We feel helpless and mislead!
This has put a huge halt to our planning, please help :) :)
Sincerely
Jess

I'm not sure about caterers but ours would only use two companies if you wanted a marquee and would not allow any other companies in.

If you think it's not actually written in the contract then you could contact the venue and ask where it specifies it in the contract, if they can't show where that was agreed you might have some bargaining ground then.
But it there really is no budging them (many venues do insist on particular suppliers) maybe contact the suppliers and see if they can offer any options that are more suited to your preferences and budget? x

I would definitely double check the contract and if it says nothing about using their supplier then challenge them on it. If it's not in the contract they can't enforce it. If they still don't budge, is there a higher level to complain to? Could you refuse to pay for their recommended supplier? You could threaten to take your wedding elsewhere if they still refuse, but if they call your bluff you might end up stuck.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

Yes I woukd most def check the small print of the contract- if it specifies you have to then you will- if not then I honestly don't think they can enforce it- I would try and negotiate- obviously you want to explain to them that you love the venue however the issue that you have with the caterers they suggest is the price- see if you can bring it down- you don't want to go in all guns blazing as I presume you still want your wedding there?
