Just wondered if anyone is having trouble sorting the top table. Me and my partner have both got split families with step parents. Mine aren't an issue as I want my mum and dad on the top table but my partners step dad has been part of his life for a long time so wants him at the top but also wants his dad there too. How can we set this out to look ok but not just stick his step dad on the end :)

I'd do away with the top table, saves all the hassle, just have a lovely table for the two of you at the front instead and have everyone else seated with whoever.

Or could you just have a round "top table"? So you all sit together at the front but it's round. The best table setting we saw was a long table with curved ends so that the bride and groom still had no one sitting in front of them, but you wouldn't have to crane your neck and lean round people to talk to others besides the one next to you. Maybe that way even if his step-dad was on "the end", it wouldn't feel like it?

we are having us and our bridesmaids and grooms men on our table and a few friends, and my mum (dads not in picture) is hosting her own table as is OH's parents. so i don't try to kill his mum.

I have this issue myself thankfully my bio dad isn't too fussed and would rather sit with his daughter and son (my half brother and sister) and his mum than on the top table away from them they are so easy going. So I am sitting my dad at the top table and bio dad on his table with his part of the family x

    I'm dreading sorting this too......
You need to do what you feel will work. I know there is a traditional way and all that but hey, tradition isn't as strict nowadays.

My issue is, we both have split families and my dad obviously I want with me on the TT but I'd also like my mum too. My step mum won't let my dad sit away from her but I don't get on well with her and don't particularly want her on the TT. My step dad I adore but my dad would be really narky if he sat at the TT....... Seriously, I'm dreading sorting it out and may just say sod it!!! And not have one lol x we then have OHs side to sort

Found this, thought it might make it easier, you could always make it for an extra two if need be.

Glad oh dad isn't going or we would have issues like this. We would have had a sweetheart table in that case

Both of our parents are divorced with them all re-partnered now, but we don't want them all at the top table because there would just be too many of them. We're having our parents only - the steps will be sat with other family members so it's not like they will be left out or feel uncomfortable in any way. I love our step parents and they've been there throughout most of our lives but I think it will feel more special and intimate with just our real parents on the top table with us x

I'm having an odd number at my TT but really don't care any more. Mine will be me and H2B, his mum and dad, my mum and step dad and the best man. I don't even know if my bio dad will be attending as he hasn't responded to letters, calls, texts or emails about my stepdad walking me down the aisle which apparently is 'wrong' as he is my dad (don't even get me started....)

At the end of the day it is YOUR day, so sit people wherever the hell you want. It's not for that long anyway as everyone can move around and sit with other people after the meals/speeches anyway x

I'm happy to had my step parents on a different table, I get on with them but haven't been apart of my life from a young age unlike my oh step dad who has been more of a dad than his bio dad but at the same time he doesn't want to upset his bio dad of not having him on the top table. I was thinking of having it as me and my 3 bridesmaids and my oh his best man and 2 ushers. But I want my mum and dad there lol it's so hard! Think I'll just have to leave it and worry about it another time.

Sometimes when things get like this it is easier to just omit the parents from the top table and go untraditional.

We have a similar issue, my mum and dad are still together so they aren't a problem but OH's mum and dad haven't been together for over 20 years, his mum has a new partner but they have only been together for just over a year so obviously OH doesn't feel close enough to him to have him on the top table. OH's mum and dad do not speak and his mum doesn't want to leave her partner to sit alone. For this reason and to save any arguments we are having a sweetheart table for just me and OH and having the rest of our guests sit wherever they want to x

We had an untraditional top table for an English wedding. We had all our immediate family members on it, 13 in total including FILs gf. It was a round table.

You could either go for a round table with everyone you want or a sweetheart table for you and your new hubby with your respective families hosting their own tables.

We're having my Step-parents on the top table and we've put one on either end, which they aren't too worried about. When my Sister got married she my Stepdad on the same table as me and H2B and my Stepmum on the same table as my two other Sisters.
