We went to church yesterday to hear our banns called for the first time, and they missed us! He called two but said there was a third one that didn't have dates which just happened to be ours.

H2B spoke to him afterwards and we got it done while there were still a few people around. We nearly ended up not going so it's a good job we did in the end otherwise we would've been none the wiser :o/

    That was a close one.

At least you can prove you were attending church. Worrying that you were almost missed off.

This happened to us when we weren't there, luckily my auntie was and spoke up and as we had to have banns read at another church we found out they hadn't been when they should have so we had merry hell with that church as again we were really lucky because it only just hoy dine within the legal timeframe....

That was lucky! Hopefully they won't forget on the next one.

If you're getting married in a different parish to the one you live in, do you have to arrange for your local church to read the banns or does the vicar from the other church let them know it needs doing? X

Kirstyr386 you have to arrange both yourself the banns get read at both churches and you have to meet both vicars to prove who you are to them

I would hope they would have had the sense to contact you to get the dates before the following Sunday. It is a good job you went, often people don't unless it's the church they regularly attend. We heard at least one reading in each church they had to be done in.

It's a good job you went, although this is part of the reason they do suggest you go to hear them anyway.

We had to organise the banns calling at the church we're getting married in and our parish church Kirsty. H2B's Sister didn't know that when she got married last year and only just got it sorted in time apparently.

This time round the vicar nearly forgot to do any of the banns! The vicar that was there originally retired in January so they've had two different vicars covering which is making things a bit chaotic apparently. Or that's their excuse anyway!

Last one next weekend and we're going to our parish church. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly.
