hi all i've been having a think about table decoration for the reception, i was thinking of filling large glassbowls with different kinds of sweets and placing them in the centre of the tables, as i have lots of children coming and thought it would be a novelty for them, is this a good idea or do u think the children may get to much of a sugar rush x
CommentAuthorP3nelope
Well Im doing it on my childrens tables so of course I think its a fantastic idea :)
CommentAuthorGoff
Im doing this on my tables too instead of favours. Its up to the parents to ensure their kids dont get a sugar rush lol!

im also having a kids table, instead of the same favours as the adults im having party boxes for the kids (mcdonalds happy meal size boxes) full of colouring crayons, paper, little toys etc. Im also putting bowls of sweets on the table so think its an awesome idea :).
CommentAuthorHunny Bunny
I've gone for a 'sweet buffet' just on one table though - the children have their seperate area so they will have a mini sweet buffet version - I obviously think they are a great idea too!

l think sweets are a great idea, lve asked if l can bring in my choc fountain that l bought in argos for 12.00 in the summer l bought loads of sticks so l'm filling them with marshmallow and strawberries, we are taking the buffet from the hotel so they don't mind this, l'm surounding this with big vases l bought in asda filled with sweet from the 3 for 1.00 range great value, but the kids wont see this till after dinner, so fill your tables it's a great way to keep the kid's happy good luck x

CommentAuthorHunny Bunny
I went to the shop to do some choosing of sweets and it took me back about 20 years, bubble gum (you know the half penny ones in the blue yellow and pink wrapper) kop kops and cola cubes. Not forgetting black jacks and fruit salads.... brings back memories.

4lannie4 it was 1 of the first things i decided when we started sortig the reception, i have 3 young girls myself so know how bored they get. We have lots of young eices and nephews too so thought this would keep them occupied at least while the speeches are going on :)

I definately love the idea and am doing the same thnx to some suggestions from ladies on here. I already bought 30 footed glass bowls and i had no idea wot to put in them lol. Just wondering whether to stick with the colour theme or just have random sweets in there?!haha x

I'm doing this too - they do really cheap jars at Ikea. I've got tiny ones at 89p for 4 (I say tiny, but they're enough for 2-4 people) and then huge ones to put spare tea lights in that were also 89p.

I love ikea.lol Wish id have gone there before spending 60pound on bowls :o/ x

Don't worry too much about the sugar rush, most kids seem to react more to the artificial colours and flavorings so try to avoid them and go for stuff with real fruit juice in it. The natural confectionary company does a good selection without any of the artificial nasties.

this was the first thing i planned for the reception!!!my question is though...how much are you ladies spending on it??every time i come up with a figure my mum complains its too expensive!!!!
CommentAuthor4lannie4
im hoping it will cost as little as possible ive seen the bowls for approx 5 pound each and i need 10 and then was gonna try and buy the sweets when i see them on offer and as long as they are in date at the time of the wedding it should be fine x
Just wondering how many sweets you are having for the sweetie table?
I have chosen mine, and have picked 22 different sweets. It makes me feel greedy, lol. Have to have gluten free sweets for vegetarian as OH is one and can't eat the usually. Could have picked a lot more too childhood classics.
