    Hi there,

My venues wine prices are like restaurant prices and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to where to buy cheap cases of wine for a wedding? I am getting married in October in Ottery St Mary, Devon. Obviously I know I will be charged a corkage fee but if I can get the wine price down a lot then this will still be a cheaper option for us!

Sorry if I should have posted this in another area, new to the site :)
Many thanks in advance for any help, I would really appreciate it.

firstly you will have to make sure that your venue will allow you to bring your own wine in also if they do find out what the corkage is .... sometimes what they charge to open your wine makes it uneconomical to buy your own anyway

I find tesco to be quite good with their wine site as they often have sales on when bulk buying. And if your not fussy this is a great way to earn clubcard points at the same time ;)

My wine plan is too buy in small bulks from the above site every so often when they're are on sale and build up the stash so by the time of the wedding I'll have plenty but without shelling out too much money in one go. I'm not bothered if each table has different brands etc hehe.
But I need to find out how to store it correctly etc :D

If you know someone with a business who can register with a cash and carry, try there. We're buying all our alcohol from a local cash and carry and saving a fortune.

We don't have a corkage charge but have hired a mobile bar who are allowing us to do our own welcome drinks. We have a c0stc0 card and intend to buy crates of peroni for the men, around 4 crates at £22 each. Some pimms in pitchers, about £10 a bottle which will do three pitchers, at least. Then were just gonna buy cheap champagne from aldi. £5.69 for a bottle that's won awards, only about 5 bottles though. So all drinks for less than £150 xx

Most of the big supermarkets will do a buy six bottles get 25% off. they don't advertise it well but its worth asking them.

Also agree with Lala find out how much corkage is per bottle as it may not be worth supplying it yourself once corkage is added on

I would find out what the corkage charge is first, as it can be really high; the few venues we looked at that allowed us to bring our own charged so much in corkage that it wasn't worthwhile; we would have saved about £2 a bottle, and had the hassle of buying it, taking it to the venue, etc.

If the corkage is reasonable then I would look at supermarket offers: a lot of them do deals of 25% off if you buy 6 bottles of more throughout the year, which can work out really cheap. You might also want to consider going across the France if you live close enough for it to be economical, as you can pick up wine for as little as £1 a bottle, so even with the ferry crossing it can work out super cheap (obv this also depends on the quantity you're buying).

If you know someone with access to cash and carry could be a brilliant idea, as that is where I am getting some wine from as my manager goes to cash and carry.
