What's everyone's views on asking college students to do the videography of the wedding?? We weren't going to have it but thought it might be a nice touch but can't afford 300-500 for it so know people mention asking students but not sure if it's too risky x

If it's that or nothing then go for it!! Speak to the college teacher, they should be able to recommend students that they think can handle the job.

I'd say definitely worth the risk. As said above, better than nothing :)

Like the others have said if its that or nothing then I would go for it. I am considering it as I would love it to be filmed but its an extra cost. Hoping that with savings elsewhere we will be able to go for it

Go for it! Make sure that you ask to see their portfolios etc. as usual so you can get an idea of their style etc.
Most students would jump at the chance to expand their professional repertoire as well.

I think its worth the risk. Most students area wanting to build a portfolio of work and will show you their techniques. Good luck :)

Good idea. When i was a student I'd have been happy with a few free drinks and scraps at the buffet! Considering the savings though still worth paying them something. Do you have a University in mind?

Maybe test them out on an engagement shoot first to see what they can do then if they are good and you are happy, book them? I would be wary booking someone completely blind not knowing their ability especially as you can get some real duds! It is your wedding day after all and you don't want to look back on it and think 'oh god, what were we thinking!' :) x

Yeah good idea OATB, I would ask them for a sample film or test them out first, but then pay them something if the video is really good :) xx

Yeah think if it's that or nothing it would be worth it. But still ask to see some work some students will be better and put more into it as well !

We've done engagement stuff n have a photographer already was just the videoing we don't have but have had quote of £200 from local professional company so waiting to see what they have to offer n if not happy will speak with local college or uni. I'm in Hampshire so haven't a clue who I'd talk to tbh x

I think £200 for a professional is an extremely good price anyway!

Speak to the college, ask for those that are at the end of their course, see their work, just like you would do with anyone else. Then go from there.

That's what I'm thinking flossie I heard back from him after I put this post up so going to see what he's like when we meet end of sept and if I get a good feeling with him then will book if not will look into the colleges x Which leads me to ask what do we want from the videographers? He'll be there all day I'd like the walking down the isle and oh face if he able to have a second camera going, and the speeches and just all the bits that go on around us x

Our videographer is starting at the house for bridal prep, getting local area shots for scenic shots, ceremony, reception, cake cutting, dancing etc.. So essentially what a photographer package would have but with a video :) x
