ok so in the need for a rant and where better to come!!! I am really struggling to sort out bridesmaid dresses and to be honest I am ready to give up!!! I have four bridesmaids, 2size 8, 1 10 and 1 12. h2b has a light teal colour tie and a grey suit, my dress has some silver details but can I find a nice simple 50's/summer dress that is within budget, less then £70 if possible!!!its so hard and I now feel like I am spending hours trying to find something and it is really getting me down and I am ready to give in now! Please help me!!!!

wait for the sales in debenhams and coast...normally they would be out of budget but if you wait for sales or find an outlet store they may be ok.

    start weight 10st 1.5 lbs
    weight now 8st 4.5 lbs
total loss to date: 24.5 lbs now need to maintain!

I am looking on goddiva at the minute as they were advertised in one of my wedding mags. Haven't looked properly yet so don't know if they have any 50's style dresses, but worth a look. It is a shame though as 50's style is quite expensive, I would love a rockabilly dress but they cost £80 on average, sometimes less on ebay. You can spend hours trawling though, I know the feeling! x

I'm having mine made by a local dress maker who can source the material to match perfectly. I'm having full length gowns so mine are a little more expensive but even then to have them made to measure the top price is £150 and that is for lots of detail and extra fabrics as I'm having organza over the top of the satin etc. If I had picked something pretty simple then they would have been about £70 for the full length. Something simple like that wouldn't cost much at all so check out your local yellow pages.

I am having 2 of my younger BMs dresses made by my h2b auntie who has made loads of wedding dresses for family, so just have to buy the material and she will make them for nothing. So they will be full tutu skirts which I have pics of in my album with satin bodices laced up at the back. So gorgeous! For the older ones I am still looking for them, but keeping my eye on some on bay of e, just have to get measurements nearer the time as my MOH is trying to lose a bit of weight (not that she needs to), and the other is going to be 13 and will grow if I get them too soon.

Ok Gem...just breathe!!! Poor thing! Forget the colour, forget the price....just focus purely on the style. I have way too much time on my hands and would be happy to help you source some things. Your dress is gorgeous and anything would go with it so dont panic. Have you been with your BM to see what style suits them? You said you wanted simple 50's style so you do have an idea but cant envisage it? Maybe start with elements of other dresses you like eg strapless vs straps, long vs short, straight skirt vs full / A line. Just take baby steps and small decisions at first and I am sure with a little help you will find your ideal dresses in the end! x

thank you all so much! I think I am looking at either a silver, light teal or something that will complement those colours. as for style I want some thing plain and simple, strapless, more of a full ish skirt but dont really mind about length. My bridesmaids range between a size 8-12 and would suit pretty much anything. MrsE2b, I love your dresses. Budget is a major issue for me as we are doing the whole wedding on a budget so could stretch to about £70 per dress which may go up he closer to the day!Thankyou again so much xx

    UPDATE.
well ladies I went to the bridal shop today to pick up my shoes, viel and petticoat and had a long chat with the lady who runs it (from a room in her house), and she was FAB, really helped me look at colours and style etc and had even dne some research for me. I know she is giving me her best prices etc and if I had the money I would not spare a thought, however the cheapest she can do iss £99 and unfortunatly I just dont think I can stretch to that as £400 is alot of money and I havnt even spent that on me!!! so I went back to the drawing board and there is a dress that just keeps playing on my mind, saw it months ago on asos, its a navey blue simple 50's feel dress which has now been reduced to an amazing £20!!! I have got some cream flowers which I plan to pin on the waist with some ribbon and team with cream shoes to help lighten the dress. I have order 4 of them and plan to show nobody untill I have put it all together. So fingers crossed they will be ok!!
sorry but long winded but feel so much better for following heart :O)
Thankyou all and will keep you up dated!xxx

I think it is lovely and will go great with teal and silver colours, The cream flowers sound lovely but remember they will be holding bouquets at waist level too but you can have a good play around with them and get something unique...lovely!
