tonight one of my oldest friends has messaged me to say that she can no longer come to the wedding for a whole host of reasons - our wedding is 7 days away and her excuses are utter rubbish even lies - she claims to have been made redundant when in fact she bumped off work to be with her partner ( which is another story) and has been rightfully sacked ...... 4 months ago !! our venue is about an hour from her house, she can drive and so costs would be minimal - she is however refusing to drive ( so she can have a drink) and now says that she cant come because no one will drive her from Manchester to Stafford. Not a valid excuse in my book especially so close to the day - i am so upset, we have spent a lot of money, time and effort on our wedding which she seems quite happy to dismiss for the sake of some petrol ! - sorry . just needed to let that out xx

That's a shame. Is there someone you can invite in her place who will really appreciate it?
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

A bit out of order to come up with such a rubbish excuse so close to the day! She's not a real friend if she's letting u down like this xx

hun if it makes you feel better i had 3 people drop out 3 DAYS before .... one being my niece who i had arranged a special meal for and the other 2 mr lalas uncle and wife , again we had rubbish reasons ( which we later found out were a lie ) we bumped people from the evening who were delighted to join the day
We had 3 drop out too, I think most weddings have a couple of drop outs.

I always expected drop outs and for some its been a genuine reason , we have found out that one of the Groomsmen's mother has passed away today and so he will not be able to make it - where as my efforts should be focused on him and his wife, i still have this 'friend' trying to justify herself with one crap reason after another - but i have 1 week to go until our special day and all things aside i am excited - thanks for listening guys just needed to vent xx

i would just txt or call her and say that its a shame she cant come .. and leave it at that ....... you dont need to listen to excuses
I agree with lala. End it with a blunt but polite full stop, and if she keeps messaging, that's the guilty conscious talking. Condolences to your groomsman. Very sad for him. xx

That sucks; to let you know one week before! Just forget her and say fine; don't come or something like that. Sorry about your Groomsman's mum :(

my cousin and his wife dropped out the night before when it was too late to ask anyone else and we had 2 no shows on the day friends of hubby's but her mum had died the previous evening so it was totally understandable.

I have done what you ladies said ,a polite full stop to the situation and move on - rather than find a replacement ( as we are were always having a small wedding) the venue have agreed to put the money we have paid for the no shows meals behind the bar - so we can all have a drink on their behalf now !! The same 'friend' has now fallen out with one of my bridesmaids by outing her engagement on facebook before they have had chance to tell all their family !! just an utter nightmare lol xx
