Id like to basically ask some advise and get some ideas and comments on a small wedding, i pretty much no what im doing or want to do. But most people are having big weddings so it would be nice to be-friend and chat with people like me in the ''small wedding boat''

We had 10, including us...as it was in Vegas. But I went to our friends in Dec last year and there were a total of 19 including them. It was the most wonderful wedding I've ever been to. So personal and we all felt really part of the celebrations as they were able to spend so much time with everyone. I love smaller weddings!

Mine is for 15-18 depending, no more than twenty. i want al the trimmings to just more on a personal scale. I was looking at abroad but some of the family will not be able to affording meaning for a start i would loose a brides maid. As for cost I'm finding that finding a good location for such a small wedding in the uk is a bugger, i have a three i like and there are two on top of that but they are in Scotland and i am worried about weather getting to and from scotland, although it would be for a whole weekend friday to sunday inclusive, and i do love the place so would be like a wedding and a break away. Or closer to home for the night all of us. I go back and forward alot :) x
Have you looked into restaurants with private function rooms, or alternatively you could hire out the entire restaurant. I've also come across venues that host smaller weddings. I'll leave a link for one on your wall, it's not in your area but it'll give you an idea of what is offered if you want to go to a more local venue with a proposal.

For our wedding there were 19 of us altogether - would've been 20 but my aunty couldn't make it. We got married at Gretna Green, and had a mid afternoon wedding (2.45pm) with a reception in the hotel's restaurant (and sole use of it as well). Afterwards, about 7pm we went into the hotel bar and spent the rest of the night there. The wedding co-ordinator had told us we could do this and bring our own CD's to be played as well - so we drank, danced and managed to talk to and involve every guest as well.

We looked at a wedding for just 20 of us but I got annoyed that my folks invited their mate (I'm paying btw) so my best friend wouldn't fit in.
Due to that I'm having just my folks and my dd as flower girl. My h2b was going to invite his best friend but said if I wasn't inviting anyone the he didn't want to.

Our wedding was for 16 of us and we loved it. We had our reception at a wonderful hotel thats popular for weddings, in a small function room. All we had to pay for was 16 meals, but it was a wedding breakfast....they made our menu up for us, and the flowers for the tables were included in the price.
So basically, we didnt have to pay a room fee, the menu cost us £50 per person, which included the 4 course meal, the drinks, table decorations and we got to stay in the function room all night. it was wonderful. it was big enough......we had 4 lovely round tables....and later that night the staff moved them out and replaced them with smaller tables...so that we coulddance if we wanted to. It wasnt big enough for a DJ or a band.....but that was a perfect size for us, we had our own ipod with a playlist.....so theres another few hundred quid we saved aswell, not having to pay for entertainment.
It was small and intimate, and I really felt like we were able to talk to everyone during the wedding.....not like some larger weddings where you dont even get to have a chat.
Just because its small doesnt mean it cant be beautiful. We were able to go over the top with things......we had everything we wanted, which we couldnt have afforded if we had more guests. So we decided it was better to spoil a few guests, rather than have to spread the finances into feeding a large number of guests.
If we had had a larger wedding, the room we had was only legally allowed to hold 32, so we would have had to pay a room fee for a larger function room in the hotel (£700) and rather than the 4 course sit down meal we had, we couldnt have afforded that so it would have been a buffet. (not that there is anything wrong with them, but we didnt want a buffet)

LOL....yes it WILL be the same kind of planning. you STILL need a venue, food, cars, flowers etc.......you need everything a big wedding has....just less of it. you still have to plan the same things....make the same phone calls etc.

although we really was only paying per person for meals etc......we still had a wedding we were proud of. they decorated our room for us, and we had chair covers and everything. and even a sweet buffet for later for people to fill up bags to take home. This was our room, decorated, but still we only paid per person....everything was included in the price, meal, drinks, flowers and chair covers.....and worked out in a per-person pricing....

We thought about one big table too, but decided the room would look fuller with seperate tables. we had 3 round tables, then me and hubby sat together on a table of our own...I had always thought a sweetheart table was very americanized and pretentious......but it was great.....no top table, no-one to feel neglected because we didnt sit with them. It was lovley. And we also had a seperate cake table too .....

and around the room we had special touches, like the birdcages , and the large birdcage filled with flowers....

I am also in the small wedding boat! 30 of us in the day but more in the evening. Now finding it hard to jazz up the evening reception on a budget as dont want the evening guests to think they are an after thought, which they def are not!!!! Def keeping an eye on this post for inspiration!!! :) xx

Hi, We are definately having a small wedding, neither mine or my fiances parents are with us now. I do not speak much to my cousins or aunties and to be honest I do not see why I should invite them just because they are my family, It is definately harder trying to find venues that cater for ,wedding parties, but as RaggedyAnne has shown us with her gorgeous piccys it is possible.

My parents went to a wedding last year in Kenya and there were eight people including the bride and groom. They said it was the best wedding they had ever been to as it was so intimate. They didn't have a reception back home, and they preferred doing it that way. My parents keep trying to convince me to get married in the Seychelles, saying they'll subsidise it. Not a chance!!

We're having 25 in. The daytime and an extra 25 in the evening... I can't imagine how stressed I would be if there were more people coming! X

we are having 35 days guests and 80 in the evening. I did want all my family there but just physically could not afford it so we have just parents/grandparents siblings aunties and uncles, which is still costing us a fortune but could not cut it any more than that xx
Can not wait until I marry the man of my DREAMS
CommentAuthorLauraY27
That's what we're doing natalee, 40 day guests, but only parents, grandparents, siblings and close friends because we cannot afford anymore. We can have upto 150 in the evening though which is included in the package xx

We got married last saturday and there were 26 of us altogether it was lovely, we got married at 4.30 and had our reception at a local hotel in Gretna. It was so intimate we laughed and chatted with every one of our guests and not just for a couple of minutes which i found at my first large wedding, this was far nicer i would recommend a small wedding to anyone. Good luck x

Sounds like a lovely wedding Janet. I've been to weddings so large that you never get a chance to congratulate the couple. :(
