Wedding Forum - Should we put in extra info?...

Hi ladies, your assistance is appreciated here!

Basically, we're getting married near my hometown which is 300+ miles away from where we currently live. OH's family will all have to travel and I'm wondering if we should put some extra information in the Save The Date cards with a couple of suggestions of where to stay. I'm hoping people will want to stay at the venue with us, but I'm wondering if it sounds rude?

Current Possible Insert:

There are a few rooms available in the venue to stay at if you require them, but we would need to know as soon as possible to book them.

It costs £145 per room, & includes a full Scottish breakfast the next morning. Some rooms can be changed into twins and there is one family room available.

Please let us know as soon as possible if you think you want one of these rooms as we have to book all or none with the venue.

There is also an option of 2 self catering cottages which sleep 10-12 per cottage for a min of 3 nights. Prices for this work out at a maximum of £145 per person for the 3 nights (£48.17 per night). This includes 2 doubles, 1 twin and 2 interchangeable between twin & double.

I think a save the date doesn't need too much additional info, maybe put the location on there so people know they will need to travel/make arrangements?

I'd not bother with all the accommodation info, just put accommodation available at bla bla bla website, Book early to avoid disappointment.

Save a dates are really just for that but I can understand your concern as we have guests coming from up to 500miles away.

Because of this my OH and I created a FB group for all our day guests which contained travel info, hotels to stay at and links to their sites and contact details and it worked a treat :D

i wouldnt bother with a save the date, id just send out the invites early. unless you can actually book hotel rooms a year and a half in advance (can't imagine anyone doing that so soon anyway, tbh, i know i wouldnt), there just doesnt seem much point. i agree with IDL. As long as people get the gist, which is what the save the date is for, you will be reet

Thanks all. we're probably not going to bother with any extra information in them but if people ask then we will tell them. We got the save the dates as part of a package with our photographer so seems a shame not to use them. It was more if they want the rooms at the venue itself that we need to book fairly early, and the cottages on the venue land, as they tend to be booked up pretty early, but I think you're right, I'll just send out the invites early and let the people who need to travel know.

I would probably state that accommodation is available on your STDs so at least they know, but not go into any further detail at this stage. You could send your invites out a smidge earlier and include all the information they need to know with them. That's what we will be doing. We've also set up a wedding website that we've given everyone access to now, this also has information about accommodation. A few people were starting to ask so we thought it was a good way to let them know the arrangements xx
