Start looking now. It may take a while to find "the one".

I started looking 14 months before the wedding but didn't make my final decision on which one I wanted until 10 months before (even though it was in the first boutique and the 6th dress I tried on). Most stores need 6-9 months to order and get the dress made.

It depends on whether you think you could find something in a sample sale or in an off the peg shop or whether you want to place an order for a dress. As IDL says it can take a while for one to be made for you.

I bought mine off the peg in January, I am getting married in July. I bought mine on the first day we went shopping and it was the 4th dress I tried on. To be honest I would probably have left it a little later as I knew I would probably buy off the peg,but I was just getting itchy feet, and happened to find a dress first time round.

I know exactly what you mean, I'm getting married June 2017 and I cant wait to go dress shopping but whenever I try to organise something to get me, my mam and my two chief bridesmaids, we are all busy due to work and stuff. Got a feeling I'll probably leave it as long as I can as I want to shift as much of my baby weight as I possibly can. But I think its perfectly fine if you want to go now as it will give you plenty of time to try on as many different dresses as you want and even more time for you to shop around to try and make savings xx

No harm in looking now, I ordered my dress about 20 months before the wedding, only thing was, sometimes I'd see another dress and think have I made a mistake, but then I'd look at a pic of my dress and realise I had not. If you are 100% sure it's the one no harm in ordering it early

Thank you all for your input girls. I'm however on a keep fit campaign and was aiming to loose 1-1.5 stone by October and was going shopping then. Will that be too late, do you think? x

See how your weight loss goes, maybe go more August or September, only say this as some designers take a while to come into the shop, Maggie dresses can take some time, I paid the deposit on mine in the February, but actually got measured up and ordered about October/November time and it was not in until end of May. This will still give you time though but the more time you have the less stressful things will be for you

LauraR I'm in the same boat, getting married July 2017 and haven't looked at dresses yet as I hope to lose weight before trying some on. I think I'll probably start looking in July this year with about a year to go. By then I'll hopefully have shifted enough to get an idea. November might be leaving it a little tight if you want a dress made to order. Remember you'll have some fittings and alterations to squeeze in too probably so if you do lose more weight before the big day the dress can be taken in :) Good luck x

I did full on 2 days dress shopping 11 months before the wedding. I found my dress on the second day and the placed the order at the end of October. My dress came in last week for my wedding in 7 weeks time. I could have left it later in theory to start trying on but like some have said, it all depends on the designer.

Happy dress shopping - it's such a lovely experience x

We are getting hitched in November 17 and wasn't going to start looking till January next year - leaving just 9 - 10 months for my dress to be ordered/delivered. However after reading the comments, I think I will start to look earlier.

Looking forward to becoming the 3rd and last Mrs McLauchlan
