Unfortunately not. They literally sell tea, tea pots, tea cups, tea strainers but nothing else. I have a while yet to work it out. Plus if there are enough of us I'm sure they wouldn't mind us brining a bottle of coke. We will be buying enough tea from them!

It's my hen at the weekend!!!

We're staying in Poole for 2 nights but I don't know what we're doing. I'm told my bridesmaids have something planned for 1 of the nights and 1 of the days... feeling a bit anxious about it as I hate not knowing things and am a bit of a control freak, but I'm sure we'll all have a fab time. Can't believe it's come around so quickly!

Emily just a thought - you might have already seen this - but S@nd3rs0n's in London have a Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea, It's a little pricey but it's really something quite special if you fancy a city break (not sure where you're based - 'not london' seemed like the safest bet!)

Does your hen need to be an all day thing. My sister is saying so. She has this idea in her head of what people usually do but I'm not sure.

She was planning a trip to Liverpool because people 'usually' go away for it.
I said yes initially but then said that actually I wasn't planning on going away for it and didn't want to do that. Her response to that was well plan what you want then.

Just messaged her and mom about doing a canal boat party and she has said what will you do in the day then and seems to think it has to be an all day thing because that's what people usually do.

I'm just feeling a bit lost and don't know what to do any more.

She is also saying that if we are just doing an evening thing that we shouldn't go out for food as people don't eat a full meal and then start drinking straight away.

    HELP!!!!

You hen party should be exactly what you want it to be Emily. If you want a night only that's fine and if you want to have a meal then that's fine too. Just because some people don't like to drink lots after a meal is not really your problem. It's about you and what you want xx

I completely agree...... If you want evening only then evening only it should be! If you want to go for a meal then tell her thats what you want! Go for a nice meal and then a few drinks after..... people dont have to get absolutely leathered!

You need to be comfortable hun and not dictated too....

Thank you. I was starting to feel like she was planning her hen do not mine..

I have since seen perfume making sessions which sound lovely. Only 1 glass of bubbly so no heavy drinking in the day plus I can then wear a truly unique perfume on our wedding day. Will see what they think. Its not cheap though.. £35 per person..

I think that's quite reasonable to be honest Emily, people expect hen parties to be quite expensive anyway as it's usually and activity and sometimes an overnight stay etc so that's really not too bad, I am sure most people will be happy to pay that to see you have a lovely hen party x

Just caught up with this tread and when I saw your original question my first thought was that your sister was arranging her own hen not yours!

Yes, nowadays a lot of people will go abroad or have an overnight stay or start early. BUT there is no right or wrong with a hen, it is supposed to be a time for the girls to get together to offer advice to the bride for her upcoming marriage!

Surely the canal boat is a day thing as you don't really want to navigate whilst drinking in the dark??? Maybe you could get the barge for the afternoon, pull up at a nice pub for an early tea, return the boat and have some drinks?

The one thing you have to think of is that if you do an all day thing and some people can only do part of it, you may end up very drunk quite early. On mine, because we had been drinking from about 12, and when we met up for the start of the evening I was being fed shots so was very far gone by about 5pm, and people were turning up saying 'Is Steph OK???' Haha

Just tell her exactly what you want then she can orgainse some surprises within that remit x

Steph that's what it feels like if I'm honest.

The canal party is a 3 hour trip with a driver so no worry about us crashing lol! You don't stop on it. I suppose it's like a bar on water. I am conscious of the drinking.
Mom and sister wanted to do cocktail making but I wasn't sure about all the drinking in the afternoon. Especially as my sister said will you want to go on a boat after drinking all day.

I liked the idea of a perfume making but yesterday when I mentioned it to her she had nothing positive to say about it at all. Just not sure where I stand with it. Is it just me who likes the idea of it? What do you ladies think?

Thanks for the comment re process people. Makes me feel so much better xx

Its definitely something different, and to be honest £35 isn't much more than a cocktail making class, some of the bars in Manchester charge that or more! Maybe you could do the perfume making first with however wants to do it and then go on the barge and then have a meal to finish off and people can go to as much or as little as they want?

I think perfume making sounds really fun and special! Remember it's all about what YOU want to do, you are the hen. I don't think you are at all out of order wanting to pace your day rather than it being a booze fest. Your sister can have what she wants when it's her turn x

perfume making sounds really fun, i would love to do that

We are just having an afternoon/early evening meal. One of my bridesmaids is only 15 and i want to include her, plus i want to include my nana and everyone in between as i see it as a proper sit down girl chat time, so it's going to be very relaxed with a few bottles of wine whilst we eat. Nothing fancy but I don't enjoy the usual getting drunk, strippers etc haha a few people have said oh that will be boring but to be honest i don't care they don't have to come I can't wait to be able to sit down and have a nice relaxed evening full of chatting to the girls i love

My sister, who is very much the opposite of me in film/tv/books/etc. tastes, was looking into how much it would be to go to HP Studio and or DW Experience, which I love and she hates, with out me mentioning what I wanted. So tell your mum and sister that it's your gorram hen do and to look at what you want and dismiss it out of hand because it not what people "usually" do.

I saw way too many groups of people going to Amsterdam on stag/hen do's on a ferry because it what people from 'Ull do and half the time the B2B didn't even want to do that but was just putting up with the plan for the sake of everyone else. Stick to your guns and so what you want.

You could possible to do thing, perfume making in the day snd cocktail thing st night, there is a really nice bar called St1rlings in the jewellery quarter that does a 2 hour cocktail making and a hot buffet for £30 each so I still think £65 for both on your hen do is reasonable :-)

I am being brave and leaving it to my bridesmaids and MOH to sort out. They are thinking across the whole board to include everyone which I like. So far from what I can gather they are planning to start the day at Alton Towers (where me and H2b went on our second date and he asked me to be his girlfriend) then a meal in the evening for everyone and to head out on a bit of a bar crawl to the places we went out at university.

Tiffany - I'm not really bothered about having a hen party either, but my bm's are trying to insist on it.

Problem is, I may have to have 2, one back at home (west midlands) and one where I live now probably Cardiff as this is the nearest large city.

Looking forward to becoming the 3rd and last Mrs McLauchlan

I wasn't going to have a hen party, because I didn't want the clubbing & drinking that seems to be all the rage these days - nothing wrong with that for those who like that sort of thing - it's just not for me.

However chatting with my cousin we came across a girls night in spa break that was perfect, so we're going for that. It's fairly expensive at £135 per person but you get lunch, private dinner, 1 hour of treatment, use of the spa all day both days, 2 cocktails each and the overnight stay, so it's not a bad price considering all that. It also means my SIL2B (who will be 17) and my Mum (who is disabled) can join in too.
