I have found out that some of OH's family have been complaining about a. not being invited to the ceremony and b. that we are having it on a Friday. They can't understand that we wanted to keep the day small by only having immediate family on his side as I don't have any family. We didn't want it to be 130 of his family on one side and me, my son and my brother on the other. That's selfish of us. We are also selfish for saving money to spend on a big p1ss up for all his lot in the evening by having it on a Friday. Without any trace of it being a joke, we obviously weren't thinking of others when we decided on a week day!
We haven't sent the invites yet but I said 'if it's that inconvenient we'll save them the trouble of having to reply by not inviting them in the first place. Wouldn't want to put them out by inviting them to a v expensive party to celebrate us getting married.
Got married 11/11/11.

Pshh flipping family in laws! Tell them to get stuffed the lot of them, it's your day, don't even think about them, if they want to be there they will make the effort regardless of what day it's on. Our wedding is a Thursday which means people have to take 2 days off work, and if the don't like it then they can by all means just go to work!

i know the feeling huni!!! just let them get on with him babes and just carry on, if they want to take their bat and ball home about it then let them!!! there is nothing you can do. your doing it on a friday because you want to (and its cheaper) and you have limited numbers, half of them you won't have seen in ages anyway!
I've got the same thing at the moment with my cousin, he's getting married this november and because i've sent out my save the dates to day guests only he's now taken me and my other half off his day list and put us on the evening list (to be honest i wasn't expecting an invite from him as i've not seen him in 3 years and even then he didn't speak to me!)
So let them be bitter and selfish, i'll have it all to come when we send out our invites. my mum has had it already because of my uncles 9 kids only 2 of them has got a save the date card (don't see any of the others) she's had snide comments but its not that they aren't invited at all they are invited to the evening instead as i can't afford to have everyone to the day do!
just ignore them and get one with hun they will understand and with you not even sending your invites yet i don't know how they can be complaining!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They re complaining about not coming to the day, which would mean having a day off and then complaining about the day off that they're not having!
Am I the only person to have been to, and see no problem with, a party on a Friday night?
They haven't commented on this so far but, selfishly, I would like them to dress up a bit for the party too! What a cow eh? Me and my selfish ways. Someone should put me straight!

You need to give yourself a good talking to(!) How ridiculous! There's no pleasing some people. xx

Do people love thier work so much that they don't want to take a one day off to enjoy an amazing day, watching two people they love getting married and sharing the day!

I'm getting married on a Friday too, I think it's better as they get a day off work and the weekend to recover : )!!
I'm not sure what their problem is if they are being invited to the evening, what difference does it make if it is a Friday or a Saturday? It will just make the weekend feel longer!!
I handed my save the date cards out yesterday so that people have plenty of time to get dates booked off but luckily everyone seemed happy that we had set a date and didn't mind that it was a Friday as it was only one day that they had to take off
Don't worry about it, at the end of the day you can't please everyone and you shouldn't try to. It's your day and as long as you and H2B enjoy it then that's all that matters

Surely most people could finish an hour or half day on a Friday to attend an evening do? I'm a bit worried about the same thing to be honest - we're having a Friday wedding and we have about 20 close friends who expect to be at the whole thing, but we want a registry office wedding with just our closest family - not even all my siblings with their families - then invite people to the reception. We're not having a sit down reception as it's just not us to be on show, so I worry that people will feel cheated. Or that they won't come at all. I'll be interested to know how it all works out for you. xxx Sorry I can't advise - but I keep trying to tell myself it's my day not theirs, so perhaps that is what I should be telling you too. It's easier said than done when offending family isn't it??
