I saw and fell in love with a dress whilst researching gowns last year. Regrettably I didn't go and try it on at the time. I now find that the designer discontinued it in March this year :( meaning I wouldn't be able to order it new.
After my initial disappointment I have found a bridal store not far from me that has their sample on sale :)
My question is this, how many of you have had experience buying sample gowns and have they been good?
I realise it won't be in mint condition but as they are still asking £900 for it I'm guessing it can't be too badly damaged.
Has anyone brought a real fixer upper that has been made to look stunning again?

My dress is a sample one. Only thing they classed as wrong with it was a dirty hem but a good dry clean would sort that out or talking the hem up a tiny bit.
See if you can haggle with them on the price I got mine down to £600 because it had been on display in the window as well.

If it's the dress you love go and try it on. You will then be able to see what if there is anything wrong with it that a dry clean won't fix. As Tiffany said you will also be able to haggle the price down if it is not in mint condition.

My dress is a sample, there is no damage it just needs a clean which the shop have kindly offered to do. Luckily my dress had only been in for two weeks so hadn't been tried on too many times. I paid 800 for my gown. You should definitely be able to haggle the price as they won't be able to return it to the designer.

I would go and try it on. Specially because sometimes you think that dress is your dream dress and when it try it on, it doesn't give you butterflies in your stomach. If you're still in love with it, like the ladies said before, just check if there is anything wrong with it that a good dry clean wouldn't sort out. I almost got a sample dress, it was really lovely and there was no fault on it, apart from needing a good clean. Good luck :)

Mine was a sample dress. Was £999 down from £1500. I had a choice of ordering a new one or having the sample in the shop as the boutique owner was going to stop stocking that designer. I went for the sample. Most samples are in good condition as boutiques try to look after them so that they can sell them on in their sample sales. All mine needed was a dry clean and it was as good as new. Bonus too that ot was a size 10 and fitted me perfectly so the only alteration needed was the hem taking up.

Samples are definitely worth looking at.

My bestie getting hitched in September also has a sample dress.

Mine is a sample and a proper bargain, a Ju5t1n A13xand3r, £1700 down to just £450 :) I tried several different gowns on then found 'mine' online on the JA page, and knew it was everything I was looking for. I then found 2 shops selling their samples, in different sizes. I looked up the JA sizing chart, measured myself and went to try on the one closest to my size - driving 400 miles round trip to do so!

But it was amazing and fit perfectly, even the length was perfect, it was just a little bit baggy around the shoulders/straps. So I took it to the shop my sister has used for alterations and they are just altering it slightly, and as it was beaded with just one or two snagged beads from being tried on she is also doing a bead check and tightening/replacing the odd loose one.

The dress itself is like new. I am completely chuffed with my bargain, can't wait to wear it - three weeks today!! :D
