We couldn't book ours until 12 months before either. I just made sure I rang first thing in the morning and that way I got the time I wanted lol xx

I find it strange that you can book the venue and all the rest in advance so you can save or pay it in instalments but not the registrar I'm worried that when I go and book I'll get told I can't have that date when the date is very special to me as it's 2 days after my mums birthday and the day is my best mates daughters birthday. I originally wanted the 15th as it was between the 2 days but the 15th didn't fall on a weekend so we opted for the 16th. Both my mum and my adopted niece (best mates daughter) are both no longer with us as they both passed very young. So the date is extremely important

I think you'll be ok as long as you ring first thing on the morning of the 16th, hopefully that way you will the first person to book that day and have more choice of times of ceremony xx

You're welcome hon, I must admit that I agree with you about not being able to book your registrar well in advance when you can book everything else 2 years in advance! I think it's strange that every council seems to have different rules about how far in advance you can book, I'd have thought it would (and should) be the same rule across the country lol xx

Hi welcome to the site, I think it must depend on where you live, because we don't get married until October 2018 and we booked our registrar about 5 months ago (so 2 1/2 years before our wedding), we have to wait until the year before to give notice which is about £100, but the actual registrar fees have already been paid and secured our date.

Yeah Emma, it varies around the country it seems. Some areas let you book/ reserve your date well in advance and others (like ours) only let you book or reserve 12 months before xx

Hi it definitely varies from council to council we booked our Venue back in February and they got in contact with the registrars who then contacted us to secure the date and time of our wedding. We also had to pay a small deposit to secure our wedding date! Will now need to next contact them a year before our wedding x

I am in this exact situation. My wedding date is not until 7th April 2018 but it looks like I can't book the registrar until 12 months before. I have sent them an enquiry form to check if that definitely is the case. But I'm reserving the date for my venue regardless!!

We booked our venue in Feb this year and booked our registrar at the same time. Although we have to confirm and make a final booking this November (12 months before the actual wedding)

Different areas/councils have different rule I beleive

Looking forward to becoming the 3rd and last Mrs McLauchlan

definitely depends on the area I think. we get married may 2018 and I booked the registrar about 3 months ago paying a £50 deposit to secure the date and time, we cant give notice or find out who our registrar will be until much closer to the time though x

I am having the same nightmare.
We booked our venue in April 2017 and get married 7 September 2018.
Ive booked the day off work to ring at 9am !! - I know sad
I just think its crazy also to let you pay to reserve venue but not book a registrar ??
So many what ifs going through my head.....stressing if i cant get a registrar ???
We're in the Lancashire area and its definitely 12months minimum.

Yes we was the same I get married on 11th august next year and I had my venue booked in February 2016.

Only on the 11th august this year was I allowed to call the registrar office and make a provisional booking.

I was really worried about the time but honestly it was a really quick process and they were very reassuring beforehand that there wouldn't be a problem getting a registrar.

The best advice I can give is exactly 12 months to the day ring them first thing- I was on the phone at 9am because then you are pretty much guaranteed to get the time that you want.

We had our notice of marriage meeting last Wednesday and as long as no problems occur within 28 days we are all set to go :-)

We booked our registrars exactly one year to the day we were due to get married.
We had already booked the venue, and had everything crossed that they could fit us in.
    Luckily we had no problems

Looking forward to becoming the 3rd and last Mrs McLauchlan
