So, my hair is naturally mousey brown and i have been dyeing my it red for the past 2.5/3 years. But ive been thinking of going back to my natural colour for the wedding. I am in too minds about the hair colour for the wedding at the minute, but i cant get it out of my mind!

I did try to go back brown after christmas, but it went very ginger! (my hairdresser bleached my hair then put a brown on, but the colour didnt take at all).

I am aware of Colour B4, and a couple of my friends have used it. But reading up on it, i think it will take me back to ginger because of the bleach. I am thinking of giving it a go and buying a brown to cover it just in case.

Has anyone else been in the same situation as me? If so, what did you do to get rid of the red? Also, is there anything anyone can suggest to remove the colour?

    Thanks

i wouldnt use any shop bought colour remover but go to a hairdresser... mine used a non bleeching non harsh at all hair colpur stripper nt surw what ut was she said she had to order it from loreal direct tho and only available that way to trade... it got my purple hair colour out great.. did go gingery but thats all it can do will never take u back to natural colour it just strips it... she said she wasnt mwant yo add any colour to it aftwr but she cpuldnt lesve it as it was so put a blonde on (what most would call ash blonde) it worked amazingly! she refuses to touch it for a month (was done on 24th july) so she be back in a few weeks to add a few highlights in but i wont be going bk to bright blonde again (what i had for yrs before purple)

i actually love the tone its gone

dont pls dont use colpur b4 etc a friend of mine did her hair is wrecked!

I've had dyed red hair for about 8 years, gone brunette for the wedding.

Don't use removers or bleaches, go for a darker brown to start with. There will still be a red tint for a while, but after 2-3 colours (and months as I did it monthly) it settles down to the brown. Avoid coffee named colours as they contain red tints which your hair will pick out more vibrantly.

Oh so i could possibly fade the colour and once its faded enough, stick a mosey brown over it? I was hoping to have a non dyed haid of hair by the wedding, but i doubt that will happen

Lenny, your hair colour is lovely! Thats the kind of colour i would like to go, but i really dont think i can get back to it before the wedding. Especially now i have bleach under the red. I didnt realise my hairdresser was using bleach, she just said its a colour remover and went for it. I dont know how far down the bleach would be in my hair :(

ypur best speaking to a different hairdresser and say strictly NO bleach is to be used explain everything! it may take a few months to get close to what your after but it is doable. before purple i was bright blonde and red underneath so the blonde really took the purple!!

Tanya, I looked into this very thing because I am mousy blonde as well but I dye my hair dark chocolate for years now. I want my hair a vibrant red for the wedding but because my hair is thin but with lots of it I am terrfied of what it would do. My hair dresser advised they would not strip the hair colour off however they would lighten it enough that then putting the red dye on would be perfect. Because your hair is red they might be able to do the same sorta thing but I would never say to someone to lighten their hair at home. A hairdresser spends years training to do these very things as well as should anything go wrong they will know what to do to.

Yeah i might pop into a local hairdressers and ask their advice. My only concern with that is the cost. If its a lot of money then i highly doubt i can afford it :(. Every penny i have spare is going into the wedding fund at the moment (and its not really a lot)

she is coming back in a few weeks to sort it abit better give it a better overall tone etc.. usualy i pay 50 for a cut and colour tho x

i use colour b4 all the time, it does leave a ginger tinge and dries hair our for a day or two but works a treat.. i always use a semi-permanent in my natural colour after which always lasts longer too x

    31st October 2015.. Can't wait!!

If all else fails ladies you could always wear a wig!
Im with you on the vibrant red and purple colours tho. I have dyed my hair for years and can't even remember what my natural colour is haha. At the moment I have it purple which was stripped and highlighted from black to achieve this. My hair was in such a dry state I had to intense condition it several days a week before it was restored to some what normal. I now am tired of the purple fading so quickly and I am now considering going back to a brown and over time introduce a few highlights.
My advice is if anyone is in a simular situation you should consult with a colour specialist, this may be a little more expensive but this is your hair and if your anything like me it is something to be treasured. So please dont try to do it yourself the only other way is to grow out the colour or have your hair cut shorter to speed up the grow out.

My red fades really quickly, so i have considered growing it out and maybe putting a brown on if its not all gone by the wedding. i dont want to leave it till the last minute though lol

I was in this same boat. Been dying it red myself for years but wanted to grown it and go back to brown for the wedding.

I tried all sorts. I used a pre lightener followed by brown but it went orange and the brown faded really quickly cos it stops the dye taking as well as usual. Tried going a darker brown but again the red would come through

In the end I went to the hairdresser who used a peroxide wash on it which it diluted with water to not damage the hair. It was followed up with an ash brown and a toner on the roots which had gone almost white due to them not having dye on them

I'm so pleased I did it as there's no hint of it now.

If you are going to dye your own you need to stay clear of anything that says it has warm tones, chocolate brown is especially annoying as it has lots of red. You need ash brown as it has green undertones which counteracts the red tones. Anything that says cool tones is good

I used to have bright red hair for about 5 years then one day decided to go back to brown, I knew I wouldn't be able to get my natural colour back (medium brown) but thought i'd try to go as close as possible. I used a home hair stripping kit then went over this with a brown hair colour and haven't had a problem since. I know lots of ladies have said don't use home hair stripping kits and I was very worried about doing it but I bought this and a brown hair dye and thought i'd give it a go. It completely stripped my hair to blonde but meant that I was able to dye it brown without any red showing through and it hasn't since. I don't have to dye my hair as often now either as you can't see my roots as much :) x

I would ask friends and work mates which hairdresser and salons they would recommend and go and have a consultation. The stylist will know where you need to go from here. I wouldn't try any home colours, they could make it worse. Its your time to get it right and by the time you get to your big day it should be lovely! Good luck

if using box dyes, go for one that says 'ash' as it has a blue/green tint (no, your hair wont look blue or green though haha) which is the opposite to the red tint and helps fade it out quicker.

I started using easy&nice medium ash blonde when my hair was red and it eventually got to a lovely mousey brown colour. they also do a colour called light ash brown which is a bit darker, i kind of go between the both of them now.

    Good luck x
