We have decided to have a general knowledge pub quiz at our reception because me and OH used to like nothing better than a night out down the local on quiz night but since starting a family we just don't get the chance anymore, so we thought it might be a nice idea for our reception entertainment :) The plan is to allow everyone chance to arrive (4pm) and get drinks (say half hour) then start the quiz with a quiz master reading out questions for say 45 mins or so. Then a break for the meal (5.15) (which is a buffet) maybe give them about an hour to eat and mingle before doing the quiz answers (6.15), which will be just before the speeches(7pm). then from 7.30pm evening guests are due to arrive and disco will begin. So what do you think? Do you think people will like it? Would you if you were a guest or would you prefer to just chat and mingle rather than have a quiz? I'm thinking that for those who don't want to join in they can just go to the bar, seated area and chat and relax whilst others do the quiz but I'm worried about how they'd feel about it i suppose, so just wondering what opinions are :)

Ooh I'm in two minds about this...I love pub quizzes, and if it wasn't a wedding, I'd think it was a great idea, however I would be concerned that there wouldn't be enough pre-disco mingling and it could mean the evening reception was quite slow to start...don't forget you will be wanting to mingle too, everyone will want to come over and have a chat with you after the ceromony....what time is the ceromony? It might not be an issue if you've got a gap between.

Hi bride of frank, i think it is a great idea and one i have already planned to incorporate into my big day.
My uncle writes quizzes for a living and i have asked him if he would write one for us to do between the wedding breakfast and the evening do. At this point a lot of the 'oldies' want to have a bit of a break and i thought it would be a nice way to break the day up.

I see where Laura is coming from, maybe you could have a bit longer for the mingling at the beginning, but i think its a great way to get people at their tables chatting. Plus you guys could perhaps not even take part in the quiz and go around the tables chatting and getting your congratulations off people as they play?

    Xx

Thanks guys, you've all been quite positive about it so thats reassuring :) With regards to the mingling, we haven't really left much mingling time thats true, as the ceremony is at 3pm and we will have travel from registry office to venue. I think this was deliberate on my part though because me and OH are not that good at mingling, we're not the most sociable of people and at previous weddings we've been to we usually end up just sat together during the reception bit watching other people mingling. I guess we're both a bit on the shy side, so not good at meeting new people and thats why we came up with the idea of the quiz, so that people wouldn't just be sat or stood around feeling awkward, which is usually the case for us ;) I know that as its our big day, its unlikely that we'll be left on OUR own at anytime but I'm hoping it will put the other guests at ease whilst not feeling too much forced fun ;)

I think it's a cute idea, but I'd cut down on the time allotted. Maybe 30 mins instead of 45.

Was thinking of having a quiz at our wedding, witn it being music themed I suggested we have the dj play a few songs and ask the guests to name the song/ artist/ date ect, but my OH says he thinks its a bit cheesy. But now ive seen this im going to discuss it with him again
