Dee - I thought you might have already found something like this but I couldn't find anything on the search...
When I do my speech I am going to light candles for those who are no longer with us and I wanted to say a poem / prayer for them but I don't want it to be too depressing or upsetting for people... does anyone have any ideas of what I should search for on the internet or any that you can recommend?
Thanks x

Although we can't see you we know you are here Smiling down, watching over us As we say "I Do" Forever in our hearts, Forever in our lives, And so we say our vows In loving memory of you.
On this day, somewhat bittersweet, the thought of you pains my heart. I cannot help but remember the day we seemed destined to part. I know you are looking down us us,watching from above. Yet, how I wish you were here today showing your support, and love. I'm all grown up now, but I still wish you were here by my side. I need you here on the day that I am becoming a bride. However, I cannot change the past. All that's left now are sweet memories. Memories, and thoughts that in my heart will always last. I am moving forward, but I can't help looking back. Thinking of you, and how you did everything in your own special way. Because of you, I have learned to cherish each, and every single day.
2 for you xx

We stand today in front of family and friends saying our vows and declaring our love
There are people who are no longer with us and are celebrating from above.
Their love we will always cherish, and keep with us every day
For them to give us a smile and be ok Is all we ask for and pray.
So lets raise a toast to absent friends and hope they wil be with us until the very end
just made that up .its pants lolxx

Today is a special day for (Bride & Groom) Those around us can share our love But those who've departed this earth Can smile down on us from above We wouldn't be us without (names) And want to remember you on our special day.
To put on your OOS For those who could not be here today a token from them is included in my bouquet. With thanks from Granny and granddad.

We were going to do something like this - As a few of you know Ross lost his brother a few years ago and we've both got departed grandparents. It's all still really raw for everyone though and with Ross' brother only being 16 when he died we had to tread VERY carefully where it concerned the families. Our Reverend suggested that instead of making a big song and dance out of it our best option would probably be to have a candle to represent each of them in the Church window and he would say a few words about those who would have loved to have been there but sadly couldn't.
I think it all depends on how sensitive it is for everyone. There are some lovely poems though if you decide to say a few words xxx
It's right what they say
"The course of true love never runs smoothly"
But if it had been easy then we wouldn't love each other as
much as we do right now - 1 week to go :D

mike thought that would b e abit i would cry at lol...ten my brohter did a speech and i started to blub!!!

I would dearly love to have candles to represent our lost loved ones during our ceremony but our venue will not allow us to have candles, so thinking of an alternative x
CommentAuthor~*~ Becca ~*~
why dont you have individual red roses or lilies or a individual flower special to you that could represent each person that has passed?

We aren't having them during the ceremony grumpyoldmoo we are having them at the reception - they are in lanterns outside so people will be able to see them through the window & they can burn all night as we dance :) so you could see if they would allow that - if not real flames you could always get the battery operated ones... x
CommentAuthorgrumpyoldmoo
Becca funny you should say that because I had asked my florist if she could put an individual burgundy carnation somewhere in my bouquet in memory of my daughter, so she is going to put it somewhere only I can see it and it's not going to stand out in my flowers - mainly because the carnation would look so out of place with my flowers x
CommentAuthorWinterrose
I just wrote this... (after getting ideas from the ones you had given me) what do you think?
Although your not here on our wedding day We know that you are not far away Oh how we wish you were here to share All the fun and laughter that is in the air But we know you are looking down With the your loving spirit all around So today we light 7 lanterns and with the candles all aglow We send this special message because we want you all to know That we love and miss you now just as much as when you passed And that you will never be forgotten and forever in our hearts
& then I would name them all and ask everyone to look out the window so they could see the lanterns being lit…
Any good?!? x

I have 3 as we're doing the same thing for my nan:
Poem 1:
The moment that you died my heart was torn in two, one side filled with heartache, the other died with you. I often lie awake at night, when the world is fast asleep, and take a walk down memory lane, with tears upon my cheeks. Remembering you is easy, I do it every day, but missing you is heartache that never goes away. I hold you tightly within my heart and there you will remain.
Poem 2:
If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane I would walk right up to Heaven and bring you back again No farewell words were spoken No time to say ‘goodbye’ You were gone before I knew it and only God knows why My heart still aches in sadness and secret tears will flow What it meant to love you - No one can ever know But now I know you want me to mourn for you no more To remember all the happy times life still has much in store Since you'll never be forgotten I pledge to you today - A hallowed place within my heart is where you'll always stay
Poem 3:
You can shed tears that she is gone, or you can smile because she has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back, or you can open your eyes and see all she has left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see her or you can be full of the love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember her and only that she's gone, or you can cherish her memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back, or you can do what she’d want: Smile, Open Your Eyes, Love and Go on.

I'm said crying reading this thread - I want to do something like this for my Gran who died 2 years ago - not sure what to do as I dont want to upset my mum as we both get really really upset still (she died with all of us round her from Alzhimers)
I'll think of something but ive already told mum that id like to have a single pink rose in my flowers and then take it down to her grave the next day or the day after and that way she has something from our big day. Unfortunately by the time I met Rich the disease had already ravaged her but he met her and knew he was the man I was going to marry so bless him even said we could do a poem or something on the day to remember her as he knows how much i still miss and grieve for her.
Grumpy - couldn't you have battery operated tea lights in hand painted holders to represent each person?

If anyone has any others that are slightly more "light-hearted" please feel free to add them. I need to be able to actually get through the poem rather than just the first to lines! x
CommentAuthorStevie_Dee
Sorry Rosie I know this isnt a lighthearted one and we old timers have heard this one before but thought I would use your thread (hope thats ok) to post the Dad poem rather than start a new thread and get a slapped hand as I noticed 1 or 2 mentioned a dad poem.
Don't Cry For Me
My little Girl, Don't cry for me I'll be right by your side. I'd never miss out on this day that you become a bride.
I'm here with you to hold your hand and give your heart away To a man God chose to take care of you forever from this day.
Today, I place your hand in his with blessings and with pride. My little Girl, Don't cry for me I'll be right by your side.
My FIL2B or my mum will be reading this out at the speeches. I read it a million times now so hopefully I wont end up in a blubbering mess. xxx

In Our Hearts
We thought of you with love today, But that is nothing new. We thought about you yesterday. And days before that too. We think of you in silence. We often speak your name. Now all we have is memories. And your picture in a frame. Your memory is our keepsake. With which we’ll never part. God has you in his keeping. We have you in our heart.

Not sure I could cope with a reading on the day but we're having two big storm candles outside looking over the rose garden for our grandma's as we know this is where they would sit. I've found a lovely china tea pot and cups etc too so we're setting a little table up for them both x

I have been sat here sobbing like a baby reading those poems. Especially that Dad one from Dee!!!! I have never heard that one before, it's beautiful and just perfect. I will have to try and desensitise myself by repeatedly reading it though cos I have not properly grieved for my Dad yet. He died Sept 2009 but there was a lot to deal with so I had to put my grief on hold to deal with it all. xxxxx
