Wedding Forum - Please help, difficult situation...

Hi Ladies, I'm looking for a bit of help on a slightly tricky situation.

My Mum, H2b and myself were discussing venues decorations and the conversation eventually came round to the gift table/card box, I said to my Mum I was more than happy to have a simple box, she then replied well what about Lucy* (name changed just in case). I then remembered unfortunately that Lucy has a history of stealing (items and money) at family gatherings and I am not just talking about taking money that is just out in the open. She has taken out of bags, purses, cupboards, money boxes and other places. Now I am either over-thinking the whole situation or being really harsh thinking she would steal from our wedding.

So knowing her history and the fact the table isn't being watched do I stick to a normal box or do I find one I can lock just in case?

I was thinking the same as Emily, I know that the lady who did our venue dressing hired out post boxes and she also had a wishing well too xx

I would go for something you can lock. If she has a reputation of stealing at family gatherings then I doubt your wedding would be an exception... I expect there will be a lot of money in your cards so I would err on the side of caution.

As bad as it is to say she isn't the most untrustworthy person I know that would be my sister who I am not inviting, I would like to think she has grown up and wouldn't do such a thing anymore (she started stealing when she was young and will be 16 when we get married). I am the peacekeeper in my family and I don't like arguments so I have invited them to 'keep the peace'. But I want to take precaution just in case without anyone thinking I've locked the box because of her, if that makes sense :/

better safe than sorry in this case i think, a lot of people and places lock them just for peace of mind anyway so she shouldn't automatically think it's in relation to her.

obviously you wouldn't leave the key in it !!

I like the idea of the postbox pictured above, no one would think its about anyone just a lovely wedding decoration they probably won't even notice it's locked

I don't think you have any other option than to go with a lockable box.

There are some really pretty ones available.

You could maybe put a poem in front of it

Our memories of today are as precious as can be,
And so we are keeping them under lock and key.
From this day forward, for better and for worse
So we can cherish every wish and every verse.

Sorry but is this person a close relative? As if not and she has a habit of stealing even out of people's handbags I wouldn't even have her there!

She is a close cousin but my Nan has offered to keep an eye on her an my uncle has also offered to bring his tablet so she will be occupied.

Our venue provided a post box, it might be worth finding out if your venue has one. It's good that your Nan will watch her. Perhaps you can quietly warn some of your guests without saying who, just that someone has a history. Perhaps your family will know anyway.
