Hi, I was wondering if anyone is planning to use a playlist of music at their reception instead of a DJ or band? I am thinking of doing this but am slightly concerned about any technical hitches or how it would affect the atmosphere. Has anyone had any experience of this? Thanks!

Our DJ is included in the package but we're putting together a playlist for during the day.

We are having a band but will have a playlist for after as we only want the band for an hour or so, then it's time for wedding cheesy music :)

Cool :) Do you have someone to oversee that the music goes on and stays on ok? Will the venue do that?
If your trying to keep to a budget I have no problem with them, just make sure you set up the music well in a good order with music that you know will appeal to everyone , with several really good party starter ones to start with .

We're hiring a jukebox. We're having a set playlist on it which will be over-ridden if anyone selects a song, but will revert back to it if there are no songs in the queue. People can pick their own songs to get them up and dancing on the night and we can put our first dance song on it too but block it from being played until it's time. It comes with lights, speakers to set up in each room, microphone and bubble and smoke machines. I can't wait!

Personally I think a band really sets the atmosphere.... a dj can do that as well, a play list... not so much, however it would save you a lot of money and if you know your guests really well and know what they'll like to dance to ect. then you could put one together that would work great for your reception :)
JoeyYorks I love the idea of the jukebox, sounds great :)

JoeyYorks - I'd never thought of a jukebox, it's a fantastic idea so thanks for sharing it!
I've been looking at some sites that hire them for weddings. Who did you use? :)

Donna, we only had a playlist and the dance floor was never empty, think if you chose the right tunes all is ok

Cheers Glitterfairy - did you have anyone looking after the music? Did you play it from a laptop?
CommentAuthorGlitterfairy
Yeah we had someone looking after it, it was good though as he never had to be there constantly, and yep from a laptop

I think your own playlist is a very good idea & have heard of others doing it.We are having a dj but did think of doing it before.I will be giving my dj a few songs that we would like played & just give him an idea of what type of playlist we would like.Your idea sounds great though & is more personal as you are both choosing the songs for your big day.Go with what is best for you :)
