I know, I just can't believe that some people would be willing to pay £39,000 just for a reception venue let alone the actual wedding and anything else needed for the day! Alnwick Castle sounds like a possible though, thank you, we hadn't thought of that :)

I'm hoping I can keep it a secret but I'm so excited at the moment, it's debate-able.. The other problem is that we know each others passwords to our emails so we're constantly in and out due to sharing a laptop so she might see what I have planned anyway :(
Totally agree on the wedding dress though, I don't think I can work with her after this tbh because if it's taken this long just to get a response, the stress will NOT be worth it!! See below the design she sent me, that's ALL I got!!!!!!!!!!! xx

Thanks sweetie :) I'll make sure we don't.. We have a firm budget as we are students and can't afford any excess spending which we are sticking to so far but thanks for the heads up!!.. I'm going to send an email to her at some point this week saying thanks but no thanks, I waited 6 weeks and for that?? ^^^^^ Looks like she knocked it up in 5 seconds flat and just sent so I wouldn't get grumpy.... That's what I think anyway. It's a shame because I had high hopes for her given the fact that she brags so much on her website about how she wants to makes brides dress dreams come true because she didn't get her dream dress.... What a load of bo11ock3!!! xx

We've had to move our date too :( we've come to the sad conclusion that we just aren't going to have saved enough by the time it comes to paying for things like venues/dresses etc so we have taken it back to December 2016.... We are actually getting quite excited because it means our themes and colours will actually suit the season so much more so we are seeing the positives over the negatives!!! Still trying to pinpoint a date though which is a nightmare - Working around our work schedules (I'll be a teacher and wifey will either be doing her Master's or working by then), very church orientated so have to work around that and not to mention.... IT'S CHRISTMAS!!! Who said weddings were a fantastic time were lying, it's the most stressful time EVER!!!!!

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH... So we decided on moving our wedding to 23rd but apparently it's not our wedding anymore but the OH's fathers!! To cut a long story short, we've moved it to 31st December 2016 to save any problems that appear to be cropping up!! Now that's sorted we can finally plan PROPERLY!!!

That does sound like a wonderful day to marry. You can see the new year in as newly weds. Just make sure that the church you're using (if I remember rightly you're marrying in a Unitarian church) don't have any kind of vigil service on New Year's Eve.

So last night we had a bit of bad news about using the church rooms after the wedding because now that it is on new year's eve, we've been told that there is the possibility of not being able to use them as they have just signed a contract with some band that are going to perform each year. They have to check with the committee as to whether we can use them so we thought we'd look into other options in case but actually we've come round to the idea and prefer going to a hotel and having a sit down meal! As a result, we are now going to our favourite pub/country hotel nearby that we have used for all our big family birthdays and occasions which also means I've got the price down a little bit thanks to knowing the owners very well and wrapping the husband round my little finger. We are really pleased as they are a lovely couple and are so thrilled for us... and of course even more thrilled we want to go to them for our evening stuff ;) It will feel more like our wedding and a family affair, like we are part of the family at the pub etc if that makes sense! xx

Definitely a lot of ups and downs but it's finally settling down at long last. My Daddy's on side, we have a date that everyone is happy with and we are getting some clear ideas about what we want!

I know - I'm not good at art but what she sent me was an insult, glad you all think so and I will do right by not using her. I'd be stressed the whole time wondering what on earth would turn up!!!

Well a lot has happened since I last 'blogged' on here! First off, it's 2.5 weeks since I emailed the dressmaker and surprise surprise, I got no response.... Maybe her server is down AGAIN?! *Note the sarcasm!*. Next up, against all odds, we have finally got my parents on side. We argued, I told them a few home truths to which they actually shut up and listened to and now they are your usual interferring parents suggesting ideas but really they are being very helpful, suggesting ideas, asking if we've thought about this and that and genuinely coping very well! Today we have had word from the Dean of Exeter Cathedral himself saying he'd be delighted to have us celebrate our marriage in a blessing at his cathedral and finally, we have found a stunningly pretty but intimate venue for the legal bits in nearby Honiton so all in all..... Going very very well this week!!! My parents being my parents, they were disparaging about our Harry Potter theme and I'm sure they are going to try and get us to change our minds but we'll see! We are still determined to have trinkets throughout the day.... xx

    Our guestbook!
    Our guestbook!

We've had a very productive day - We've been out dress shopping and sadly, the dress Debbie really loved is being discontinued and if we haven't placed an order by next Friday, there's no chance of getting it BUT we decided to go back to another shop we'd been too before and by more luck than judgement she thinks she's found 'the one' and is something she'd never have tried on before! And the best part, it's only £500 as it's being discontinued too and is in their sale!!! Not just that, we arrived home and found this guestbook had been delivered. A Scottish friend of Debbie's sent it all the way down from Edinburgh and she's never even met us yet, we met online but has a heart of gold. It's exactly what we looking and so simple, yet pretty... All in all, a great day :) xx

We've got various things booked but the most important of them is that we've booked our date so there's no changing! We are getting married on 16th April 2016 at 12.45pm in Larkbeare House, Exeter which is one of the residences used by the registry team.... It felt so surreal after we came off the phone once we'd booked it, scary and as though I am actually getting married!!

    Booked/deposit put down:

    Larkbeare House - 12.45pm
    Cathedral - 2pm
Reception - Country Inn near my parent's house
    Photographer - Shortlist of 3
    Videographer - Shortlist of 3
Bridesmaids - Decided on and asked
Entertainment - Chosen and paying deposit soon
Flowers - Buying from Holland and making ourselves
Colour scheme - royal blue with silver embellishments
Theme - Butterflies, owls and Harry Potter
    Cake - Made by moi!
Honeymoon - A secret, our bestman has said that 'someone' is taking care of it and we only need spending money so all we know is that it's in Europe!

I'm sure there's more but my laptop's gone bust and I don't have an updated version! :( xx

So much has changed since I last posted a month ago!

Our date is now 15th August 2015 now we have a very generous benefactor!
Cathedral - Agreed but not paid yet
Registrar - Need to ring up and change the date :)
Reception venue - Potentially decided on but going to check on 27th March
Photographer - Meeting up outside the cathedral on 23rd March to see if we like her and her work!
Ceilidh - Reserved our date but not paid although my parents are now in charge of this so they may choose someone different
Bridesmaids - Chosen and also replaced our MOH!
Videographer - Meeting on 23rd March
Rings - Got my ring as it's my OH's inherited ring from her Grandma, OH has chosen hers from Samu3ls
Flowers - Found a lady who does goooorgeous artificial bouquets but not decided on her or someone else quite yet!
    Cake - Homemade by me!
    Invites/StheD's - Made by us!
Hair - Hopefully by a family friend
Make-up - Found several reasonably priced artists but need to shortlist
Dresses - OH has hers but needs to be altered slightly closer to the day, I'm going shopping tomorrow!
BM dresses - Ideas formed, just need to go shopping closer to the time... Don't relish that with 7 to cater for!
    Suits - Hiring through F0rmally Y0urs

Getting married at either 9am or 12pm at the Registry Office then that's followed by our 2pm blessing service at the cathedral. Our day plan is in motion and our seating plan is being mapped out! All in all..... Think we've done quite well so far!

Wow I've just read this thread from the start and you've had so many changes to make. Pleased you got to move your date forward!

When it came to timing my venue recommended 1-1:30 so there's not too much waiting around for everything to fall together so we booked 1:30. I would maybe pick 12pm for the registry office so you don't have too long to wait as I personally would probably be too excited! X

Re-booked our registrar for 12pm on 15th August! We've just got back from the shop who have offered to get my dress for the cheaper price and WOW! The lady was the nicest woman I've come across in the business, we feel so comfortable ordering my dress through her. She was so knowledgeable and kind but didn't push her products/sale down our throats so the ball is totally in our court! The best part - She will do my dress for £999 at the longer length, with sleeves and the corset so if I wanted the extra length on the train, the most I'd have to pay extra is about £60 which is even better! All I have to do is hope that when I go to try it on again tomorrow, I still love it! We've shortlisted our evening reception bands to 3 and now have to decide which one we'd prefer, my ring has been chosen, we are viewing our 2 favourite venues on 27th March and our favourite photographer on 23rd March so all in all, a very successful couple of weeks!! :) xx

Bought the OH's veil yesterday for £10 and bought both our bouquets today! Here's a picture of mine, the OH has got an ivory and royal blue rose bouquet :)

Picked out a hairstyle but don't think a tiara or veil would suit it so I've bought some lovely little hairpins with yellow roses on them instead which I think will look lovely! :)

Thanks :) now we've settled on when and what we want it couldn't be simpler! The mistake we made was confirming registrar etc before we looked at all the venues and before we'd spoken to family on date/what they can contribute but lesson learnt and it's going swimmingly now! xx

Been doing quite a lot recently as some of you will have seen on other posts but I thought I would update on my planning thread :) apologies if I've repeated anything already in this thread but it's been ages!

Now that we've finished uni for the year, we've also been able to sit down and talk properly about what we really want rather than chop and change the whole time. We have decided on a proper colour scheme and theme which is going to be gentle pastels and a summery/flowery theme.

Bridesmaids are going to each be dressed in a colour (coral, mint, pale blue, pale pink, lemon, lilac) and going to be very relaxed - different styles that suit them and they can keep them too to use again if they want! Lots of flowers everywhere, relaxed, laughter, fun.. All of that hopefully as we know have a clear sense of what we want :) we have also bought hand fans for them which is quite fun too!

Hairdresser has been booked - £200 for 2 brides (inc trials), 2 mums, 6 bridesmaids and 3 grandmas which we are very pleased about!

Make-up has been booked - £124 including trials! We originally booked a lovely lady which is slightly more expensive but we were worried about the distance as purely for the trials it would be a 150 mile round trip, not to mention her having to travel up so we spoke to her and she was absolutely lovely about and completely understood where we were coming from. Luckily we hadn't paid her the deposit so we weren't tied into anything but felt we should discuss it. The end result is that we've found a make-up artist based in Exeter who literally lives round the corner and is also a bit cheaper which is a lot better all round we think :)

We've sent off our deposit for the videographer too and we are hoping to meet up with her sometime over the summer when we are down visiting my family. £200 for all the ceremony coverage and a little bit either side which is all you really want tbh as the ceremony is the important bit anyway!

Horse and carriage is booked - very excited about this as it's a complete surprise to Debbie!

We are going to have a board game/children's corner and we've booked a caraciaturist for 3 hours during the evening to do cartoon portraits for us and the guests - we thought this would be something fun and different for everyone, plus it saves us having to worry about favours which we don't want to do! It's also something for the less active ones to interact with should they not want/be able to dance!

Dress - I'm going to get measured either just before or just after I head back to uni for 3rd year. Very pleased as I've finally found some motivation for my diet so I'm going to be a bit smaller fingers crossed!

Accessories - we've both bought our veils and garters and now only waiting delivery on my veil which means when I go and get measured for my dress in September/October, I can take it along and see how it looks :)

Photography - We've paid our deposit and had our engagement shoot. We LOVE our photographer, she's so lovely and completely gets what we want... The photos were pretty good too ;) lol.

Reception venue - all going smoothly and been in discussions with them about drinks and buffet options. I'm a non-drinker generally so I wanted to find a way to satisfy both of us so we've gone for non-alcoholic arrival mojito's, non and alchy fruit punch for the meal, champers with elderflower and then during the buffet, they will hopefully bring out iced jugs of pink lemonade with strippy straws... Not forgetting the strippy straws ;) buffet wise we have asked about having cream teas and my homemade sponge cakes instead of the usual options so we are now just waiting on pricing for all of this to see whether it is actually feasible financially! Fingers crossed :)

Church.... ARGH!!!! Stress of the year DEFINITELY! We have less than a week to find out if we get to have the full marriage in the church. The annual assembly is meeting from Thursday-Sunday in Cardiff and as soon as the vicar has the result, he is ringing us... So tenterhooks it is!! So flipping nervous but trying to stay distracted however this is proving difficult and the closer it gets, the more sick with dread we get! if it's not the result we want, then we will have to do some serious thinking....

That's everything for the moment I think! Once we reach Sunday/Monday with the church's decision, we really can hit the ground running and get planning/arranging things because we will know what the situation is like invitations, horse and carriage, registrar, venue etc.... Stressful but fun at the same time! xx

I've posted on the August 2015 unite thread as I can't remember if it was this thread or the the other one but figured you would all see it anyway (will post on that one too) but some of you might remember that I was getting a little upset that we weren't going to France for our honeymoon. It's a place that means a great deal to us; I've lived there, first holiday as a couple there etc etc. Anyway, our bestman started chatting on fb about details, plans etc and we thought ok, maybe bring it up subtly as he's in wedding mode and the answer was......... He was bluffing! WE ARE GOING TO FRANCE FOR OUR HONEYMOON!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D we couldn't be more thrilled if we tried!!!!!! I know it might not seem like the dream honeymoon for some but it is truly our most favourite place and we will have the most wonderful time and utterly happy soaking up the French culture, cheeses, wines and sun :) YAY!!!!! Only condition is that we don't know as he is going to announce that on the evening of our wedding so we know where we are going the next day!
