Hi I really need to get my order of service printed but have no idea exactly what information and wording to use In them and what programme to use to make these as I would like to do them myself. There doesn't seem to be much detailed information anywhere or a template to use which would be helpfull. Also do we just need to show the vicar a copy of this to okay before we print them all? Surely they could tell us if everything was right. But before that if anyone could help me and give me an idea of how to do these myself, even if I could see the wording of other people's? I really just need a standard template and to be able to change the hyms and reading and names etc to my own. Why am I finding this of all things so difficult? Thanks in advance

We put in all hymns, readings and where guests/congregation need to respond to anything. Plus the major/significant parts of the service are highlighted so people can follow. All in the order it comes in.
We also acknowledged the priest conducting the service and at the back put in a personal message from H2B and I to our guests.
We did get the priest to "okay" it before we sent it off to the printers.
Hope that helps xxx

Haven't you had your meeting with your vicar/registrar ? They should give you a pack for you to choose your hymns/reading etc from and tell you which order the service goes in... xxx

Yeah I have and I've chosen my hyms and reading but don't know all the other in between bits that need putting in?
We had a chat with our vicar first about what it needed to have and once I'd made it (just using a word programme) I sent her a copy to ok before printing the rest out. I had the front page with "Dedication of marriage - our names - date - church - vicars name" inside was the first hymn, next the second hymn, back page had the Lord's Prayer and the reading my brother was doing. That was it. Just an A4 piece of paper folded. Nothing super fancy, which I'm glad of seeing as kids ate them and adults folded them up of left them.
You shouldn't really need to include anything more than that really, but if you want to definitely have a sit down with your vicar and they will help you and have you put in everything you need.

Ah thankyou! Maybe I'm thinking too much needed to be in there. I was thinking all the things the vicar says was ,want to go in there too for people to follow. But I spoke it just needs to be kept simple? Thanks

Your hymns and readings are all you need to put in, as well as any thank yous and other people you may want to mention.. All the church weddings I've been to, I've received a generic 'weddings' booklet that the church give out with the 'follow along' bits and bobs.. The last wedding I went to only had that, no OOS at all.. Mines for a non-civil but I've set it out like:
Our names Date of wedding
Bridal Entrance Welcome and Introduction Reading by my brother Vows Exchange of rings Exchange of a kiss We're Married !!
Signing the register songs
Mention of a candle lit for H2Bs mum, my eldest bro and my Grandma who have all passed away
And then a thank you note on the back to our guests xxx

I don't know much about the contents as I haven't got that far yet but I am pretty good with computers, if you can't find a good template online I would recommend using Publisher if you have it on your computer? It is the best office product for making documents of that type and is pretty straight forward even if your not to hot on computers. Let me know if you need any help :) xx

Publisher is amazing if you have it !! It doesn't usually come with the normal MSO packages though as it's pretty expensive ! Hope you have it ! I love working on Publisher :-) xxx

I've made an order of service - made it really informal and put a rough schedule for the whole day. People will have an idea of when they'll eat, when we'll have first dance, time for photos etc. I'm sure it's not usual to make this type of thing but who cares? I've put in it exactly what I thought would be useful instead of what an imaginary rule book says should go in it x

You need to put in words for the hymns, and potentially the text for any readings if you want to. You'll also need to name the key members of the wedding party, and aknowledge other participants, such as readers and musicians. Otherwise just a basic order so people know what happens when. Your vicar will be able to tell you the order of proceedings. So I would go with something like:
Entrance of the bride - name entry music. Welcome (heading only needed) Hymn (include words) Declarations of intent (heading only needed - the vicar can direct any congregational response) Legal declarations ie no lawful impediment (heading only needed) Marriage (heading only needed - the vicar can direct any congregational response) Marriage would include vows, rings, blessing and pronouncement. Hymn (include words) Readings (give reference and reader at least) eg. 1 Corintians 13: 1-10 read by Bob Smith, the bride's uncle. Could put whole text in if you want Sermon/address if there is one (heading only needed) Signing of the register (name musicians and pieces) Blessing (heading only needed) Recessional (name music)
The order of proceedings is a slight guess, although I have been to a few church weddings recently so it's reasonably fresh in my mind. I would include a page at the front where you name the wedding party, so you and H2B, the parents, bridesmaids, page boys, ushers and best man. You could also name your celebrant.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

You need to speak to your vicar as they will have their own way of doing things.... the vicar gave me a rough running order, i typed it up and emailed it back for confirmation then can get it printed. If not the church of England website also has a good plan on there for reference.

Talk to your vicar they should be able to provide you with a template if your unsure! Usually for a church its a copy of the hymnes to sing and when your doing what. I've done an order of the day booklet as getting married all in one place and I wanted more of a keepsake then just a bit of paper so I have *Hello and welcome *Getting to know the area and venue (a brief history) *A whose who in the bridal party (with pictures) *A copy of the menu *Timings for the day *A copy of our extra's (The rose and engagement ceremony's as well as the vows the kids will say) *Thank you poem
Basically you can have anything you want in them as much or as little
