My h2b is a big fleetwood mac fan and i thought the idea of having their version of 'songbird' as our first dance would be lovely. He on the other hand doesnt think the lyrics quiet fit because he interprets the song differently to me. Just wondering what peoples interpretation of the lyrics are, and other suggestions as we dont really have 'a song'. TIA xx

I personally feel it is a sad song and it makes me cry - think this may only be because it was played at a funeral i went to recently. Everyone has different interpretations of it tho, xx

I haven't heard the song personally but from reading the lyrics, I agree that it sounds more like a love song rather than a sad one.

What does he think the lyrics mean? To me it's a love song about pledging your love to someone and I don't think you can get more 'weddingy' than that.

I would say its a love song, but my hubby says its a sad one so there you go! Must be a man thing! We're having Elvis Presley - Wonder of You - hubby is huge Elvis fan and used to sing his songs to me when we were dating :-) plus its uplifting, words are perfect and its not too long compared to some modern tracks. We hate slow dancing so shorter the better lol!

I'm not familiar with the song, so I've just had a listen on youtube and whilst I agree that the lyrics give the impression of a love song, it does sound a bit sad, almost as if its really about unrequited love, so perhaps thats how your OH views it. I don't really have any suggestions for an alternative, as it would have to be something which is very personal to the 2 of you but is there any other fleetwood mac songs that are suitable?

We had One Day Like This by Elbow. It's a semi-love song, I suppose, but we love it. And we're Elbow fans too :)
Remember that people interpret songs differently. I think certain songs are beautiful and have a good meaning to them whereas my husband thinks they're rubbish. But you need to find a song that you both like, if he thinks Songbird is not fitting to the moment then he won't find the first dance pleasant or enjoyable, and vice versa if you didn't like his suggestion.
On the subject of songs sounding sad, a lot of love songs (if you ignore the lyrics) do almost sound sad.

As long as the long means something special to you two just go for it , its a moment of the day which is just for you and a song you will always remember - were having At Last by Etta James the original version , I just love her voice and we have both waited a long time to find each other so the words are very fitting :) xx

We're having Just The Way You Are, but I can't remember which one, I know there are two songs with the same title. I think it's the one that has the line "Girl you're amazing, just the way you are". I left H2B in charge of the first dance song as pop music is his genre and classical music is mine. I would never have known what to have. He also knows all the traps that people fall into, like the fact that "Every Breath You Take" is actually about a stalker, "I Will Always Love You" is actually about break-up, and the last line of "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" is "Until I Find Someone Knew".
