Futuremrsw- have you tried to "negotiate" the 1350? You could try to barter them down, if you feel comfortable doing so (I hate doing it so I get my oh to do things like that!) x

Mrs T that's a good idea. I think we are just going to book the basics for now and then try negotiating further details later when our budget's more clear.

I'm the same as you ladies about make-up. One of my closest friends is a hairdresser so no worries about that on the day, but I rarely wear makeup, so will definitely need help on the day. However *because* I don't wear make-up I'm a bit afraid I won't look like me. On the other had I'll have more pics taken of me than I ever have in my life, and would love to give my bridesmaids (teenage nieces) a treat. We'll see how the money works out I guess :D

In another nice piece of news we went and briefly checked out our potential venue today. It's a local community centre that used to be a youth centre when we were growing up, and means a lot to both of us for various reasons. It has a rent-able hall with kitchen which should be large enough for our sit down tables, and nice piece of outdoor space. Visiting today though parts were barely recognisable, they have put up lovely fences to separate the spaces and have a little community garden just right for a champagne reception :) Have e-mailed them with an initial enquiry so we'll see what they say. It's not a 'usual' wedding venue but they are a licensed venue and host events so I don't think it will be a problem. Yet again, fingers crossed!

OMG!!! Super happy tonight, had a party at a possible reception venue and it is perfect!!!! Holds 300 people so we can have a bit more leeway with the guest list, beers cheap AND only costs £100 to hire for the whole night (plus £100 deposit which we will get back), plus they have no bookings for anything in 2017 so we can have any date we want.....

    Awesome news futuremrsw and Sophie!

Michelle, I know I would like a knee length dress (I really like hou$3 0f m00$&k1 "k1mm13" but it is over budget) but haven't tried any dresses as I need to lose a bit of weight first! But that dress is stunning!

Hi Chrissie. Not planned much yet! How about you? x

I'm with you girls about diet/losing weight! Hopefully will be able to get down for both my sister's wedding next year and my own the year after.

I am in love with a Ju5t1n Alexand3r dress - (2014) 8695. But it is definitely over budget. Will probably end up with a knock-off I cobble together myself tbh :\

That's great news Sophie and such a great price congratulations.
My MOH and I were talking about dresses today, I have no idea what I want or what will suit me etc so we have decided to go have a look when I get back from holiday so that I can start getting ideas of what I want. I'm lucky in respects that I don't feel I need to loose weight but I'm doing everything I can to make sure I don't put anything on!!

Mrs D2B sorry it's taken a while. I've been away shopping for a bridesmaids dress for my sisters wedding. Weddings everywhere at the moment. I'm studying for my officer of the watch qualification. I work at sea so it's the next step for promotion. Unfortunately it means nine months at college which is a very long time for me to be on dry land. It's going to take some getting used to.

I work for the royal fleet auxiliary. We carry the fuel and ammunition for the Royal Navy and transfer stores to them while they are at sea so the don't have to make port as often. We do a lot of work with their helicopters and the Royal Marines as well. It is interesting. Just keeps me away from home for months at a time which can be tough sometimes.

Bit of a mental few days tbh - found out OH is being made redundant again yesterday. He's been at this place 3 years after being made from previous place before. Throws up a few issues as I am currently studying at uni so don't have much income coming in. But I am optimistic as he wanted to change careers but was waiting for the right time whenever that might be. Nerve-wracking times but also exciting - I am hopeful a new direction will be good for him.

Throws a wee bit of a wrench in the planning machine but we are sticking with our date and will sort it one way or the other - we originally wanted a budget affair but managed to save a bit extra than expected, if we have to revert to previous budget and spend saving to live then so be it :)

Thanks for the well-wishes ladies :) Had some good chats about it all and feeling very positive about everything, though it does mean he needs to find *something* soon just to pay the bills but that hopefully won't be too hard. He's current a technical engineer but is hoping to change things completely and go into horticulture! He loves the garden and has a talent for it and could get into some good fields with his chemistry degree. I'm happy we've had the kick up the butt to be honest because it's given him a 2 year head start on is career change (he was going to wait til I'd finished uni) and I don't care about the money in the interim, just want him to aim for a job he loves like I am <3

Some good news though today, got my 5th pink heart (woo!) and more importantly, found out our chosen venue is available and happy to do weddings! Going to go and have a chat with the manager soon to get an idea of costs, but hopefully it will be a budget option. At least now OH can come meet him with me without worrying about booking his leave :D

It's a local community center that used to be a youth center when we were growing up. They've done a lot more to the grounds and gardens now, and it has a nice big sports hall at the back that they rent out, it has a kitchen attached too so perfect for looking into different types of catering. I know clubs and things can rent the hall for about £15 per hour so I am hoping we can get a deal for the venue for the Friday (for decorating), Saturday (wedding) and Sunday (clear up) for a one off price of less than £450.

    Hey ladies!

I'm getting married 18th Feb 2017! We've got a venue booked but not booked the registrar yet, we're both very laid back people and foresee everything getting book last minute!

Saying that we have got a meeting with the caterers at the end of October so we can at least get a deposit put down and we'll get it at 2015 prices.

We're going to have a rustic minimalistic winter feel to our wedding, no over the top decorations or centre pieces, we've seen some nice wooden lanterns and plan to decorate with pale coloured flowers.

Aside from the above, the thing we've discussed most is the honeymoon! We are thinking of the Maldives or a Caribbean cruise.

Looking forward to getting to know you all and see what your big days will be like!

    Sam x

    Hi Sam, welcome! :D

A late winter/early spring wedding is always so lovely! And pale coloured flowers would go so well with that theme. Do you have any idea about the sort of venue you'll be looking at?

Jealous about the honeymoon - we were hoping to go to Mauritius but not sure we can stretch to it atm with OH work situation (more on that below) Indian ocean seems so amazing. Just relaxation and the new hubby, what bliss.

We live in a Victorian spa town so I want a very loose Victorian theme for the day. Stationary cream with black engraving details (which I plan to make myself, arrggh), mismatched fine china for an afternoon tea reception, a Victorian themed self-made photobooth wall and props, details of gold and pearls. Keep changing my mind about flowers.

Had some good news on OH work front, had a meeting today and seems there is a good chance he may be reshuffled into another job with the company which would just take the pressure off and mean we won't have to cut back as much for now. Would still want him to pursue his new career but on his own terms. Won't know for certain for a while yet though.

Emily I have only just seen your dress in this thread - looks absolutely amazing!! So gorgeous. I *think* the venue is licensed but not completely sure, definitely one of the big questions for when we meet.

Hi Sam, The great thing about starting early is that you can be laid back about it all and not have to rush about doing it!
your theme sounds lovely. I like the rustic theme. But we are going more modern elegance.
What sort of venue have you booked?

Your honeymoon plans sound lovely! Either would be amazing!
My OH is planning our honeymoon as a surprise so I will have no input in where we go. its exciting and worrying at the same time!

Mrs W, that is great news about the job! at least then he can still look for something else if he wants to without the pressure of needing to rush and find something.
Yeah, it would be on my list of questions too.

Thank you. I love it! I was starting to think that I wouldn't be able to find one I liked but then I tried that one on and it was perfect :) Just want to keep trying it on.

Hi Sam. Winter weddings are so lovely. I wanted a winter wedding but OH wouldn't commit to a date until liverpools fixture list was released so that didn't work at all. It's a good job I love that man. Our venue is booked but other than that nothing for a while. I think we will be to laid back and end up in a mad rush three months before.

I've made some progress this week - I've decided to give it a go at making my own invites! Figure I've got enough time to try and give up if it doesn't work! I'm going for quite plain rustic type invitations - kraft paper, lace, ribbon. I've been playing with different fonts and wording and think I'm finally happy! Also thinking I might use a free wedding website for all the information on travel/accommodation plus RSVPs and meal choices as it will save money on stationary. How's everyone else getting on?

Emily, how did your save the dates work out?

Local community center had a bit of a live music 'do' on this afternoon so went along with OH, he was really enthused about the number of people there and the gardens they have there, was talking about how nice it will all look. Nice afternoon :)

I've still not handed in the booking form for church or talked to manager at the community center, seem to have lost a bit of drive the past few weeks but will hopefully be back on track soon.

Can't wait to see the pics! Tell OH to send them over quick sharp :P

So excited that we can send all our STDs in the next few months! It is like it becomes really, REALLY real then. My sister popped round yesterday to give OH and me the STDs for her wedding next August. I am the MOH so knew it was coming, but was still really nice to see the real thing, it all starts to become official. Her STDs are cute boarding pass style ones as her OH is German and they split their time here and there.

I need to make a design for my STDs and RVSPs so I can have it made into a rubber stamp to make them (I am going to heat emboss them) but I keep thinking I can get round to it later - definitely should get it done before I'm back to uni on the 28th though.
