I think he'd do a better job than me. I'm just trying to guess what he likes. He's not a "just do it how you like it" guy but more of a "no all your ideas are horrible. I really don't like them" so would be happy for him to do it lol
Don't like the idea of that though. Think it's part of the learning to be married but doing it together and compromise

Mines the "do what ever you want" guy. The date was a joint decision and i didnt book venue until he had seen my top 3 and helped me pick out of those. I don't know what I'd do if he didn't like my ideas tho that's got to be frustrating

If I had my way we would have the church and then a restaurant meal with just closest family but he wants the big day If I had the big day it would be all traditional and old fashioned with candelabras etc he wants ultra modern and elegant and posh
So we are completely different

There will be a middle ground Emily :) modern with candelabras?

They say opposites attract. would rustic be a good compromise? It's got the old fashioned traditional feel but is really in with weddings atm.

I agree with you Hannah. If he didn't care I would still be asking his opinions.
I don't really mind if I'm honest. I don't not like his ultra modern feel. And let's be honest a beautiful posh elegant day would be lovely (and I'd prefer that to a barn type feel) it just wouldn't be my first option. I'm trying on things like the centrepieces to go for big floral arrangements. At the moment we have fish bowls with the water beads and waterproof led lights. Then having 2/3 flowers placed inside. I like that. But wouldn't be my first choice.
I just keep telling myself that I have the church and he has the party. My church is beautiful. Really old and proper church looking. Going to try to make some lovely pew ends to brighten that up but we are getting married the day before harvest so it will be fully decked out with flowers and will be beautiful!

i'm so excited about my wedding day 31/12/17 - booking our venue in 2 weeks - the date is reserved for us just need to go down to put the deposit downa nd sign the contract! so its 99% set in stone.
I get alot of funny looks when i tell people and they feel like they need to remind me that its 2 and a half year away...i do know!!
will i get the same look if i start looking at dresses? more out of curiosity than actually buying now, how mcuh do bridal shops usually need as a deposit? x
CommentAuthorEmily17
Hi Katie, congrats on setting your date and venue :)
I've bought my dress already. I think as long as size isn't an issue then there's no issue. I bought mine outright and took it straight home. Was from an outlet as I don't have the budget for it so can't help in the deposit.

I'm wanting to drop a couple of sizes before dress shopping too, although it's so tempting to be proper girly and have a look anyway!
How did you find the outlet Emily? Thinking I'm gonna need to do that same.

Excellent. We went in to scout it out to see what it was like. The lady asked if there were any we wanted to try so we selected about 6 then took them to try. It's not by appt so we had to wait to try on but didn't feel rushed to try on quickly etc. they were so helpful and listened to me. I tried a lovely one on but wasn't quite sure. Everyone around me (other brides and my mom) were saying it's perfect but she came to me and we had a chat about my worried with it and she went and found mine. That one was perfect. All staff knew the stock so so well that you had complete confidence in them.
My budget was £500 and max cost in the shop was £450 so was lovely knowing I could buy any in the shop if I wanted.
Plus it was nice that I could try them on in my size. I am an 8/10 and the sample dresses in my local shops were 14-16.

Hi KatieP Congrats on setting your date!! We can count down together as we will be the last of the 2017 brides to take the plunge!! Emily our venue is a winery and restaurant and we will be getting married there (h2b isn't comfortable in church and although I was brought up going every sunday I only go for midnight mass these days). Hannah there's no harm in looking I've been browsing online since h2b proposed I'm putting £1 in a pot every day to save for it tho so want to leave it until about 6 months before to buy if I can so I'll have about £900 to play with. Spoke to my bro today he's going to try to track down a Ferrari F50 to get h2b to the ceremony (he knows someone who sells super cars at the silverstone auctions so fingers crossed we'll be able to track one down and the owner will be willing to help us out on the day). He's also suggested that they do a cruise in, my bro is big on cars he does a lot of drift and rally events and loves BMW's especially, so h2b in his Ferrari followed by my bro the best man and some other friends in beemers and rally cars! h2b will love that and it will make for great photo's!! Want to keep it a surprise for him tho, one of my presents to him on the day!

Had the first venue viewing today...... I love it!! It's a small stately home type thing with the option of getting married outside if the weather is nice. There's a also an option of having the wedding breakfast in the house or in a marquee in the grounds.
Just a dilemma now, we were thinking of having the meal in the house before we looked around (if we liked it) but the marquee is beautiful! Amazing views and amazing lit ceiling.....
We can hire just the marquee /coach house where there is an option to get married outside or have the ceremony in a coach house attached to the main house if the weather is crap, or get married/ wedding breakfast in the house and no marquee and no option to get married outside.... But then we can't use the bedrooms to stay over in the house which was at the top of our list of essentials.....
We can hire the whole place but it's more expensive :s debating whether to just take the plunge and do it cos we love it.
We've still got some other viewings lined up which we will still go to, but I don't think they will top this one. Will look just in case :)

2nd venue viewing today! Also beautiful but I think the 1st one has just about beat it.
Feeling like I'm getting somewhere! One more in mind to look at.
Also gone and sized up our wedding rings so we know what to look out for, although we won't buy them until at least next year :)

Think we're settled on that one although can't book the date until we definitely know that half term is that week (we get married on a Monday). Emailed the local LEA but they say they won't release the date until next year..... Gutted!
To risk it or not to risk it :s

We've considered that, changing the week will mean I have to change the day as well so it's something to think about cost wise potentially. I'm just hoping that it's the day I think it is! Would make life easier lol but when does that happen?!

glad you have found your dream venue :) its lovely knowing that you have found the one.
can you have a word with the venue and let them know the situation and maybe hold 3 dates around when you are thinking it will be. Monday isn't the most popular of dates so I would have thought this will be ok??

Hi everyone. We're planning a wedding in June 2017. We've seen a venue and both fallen in love with it but haven't booked it yet because we're in a little bit of a dilemma. It's a small country home that can only hold a maximum of 40. We're planning a small intimate wedding with a relaxed feel with just our immediate family and a few very close friends.
My OH has a very small family and all will be present at the wedding but I have around 70 people in my family or very close family friends that may be disappointed if they aren't invited to the wedding. Don't know what to do because we've fallen in love with that venue and a small wedding is much more us than a large wedding, we're not huge fans of being the centre of attention, and I wouldn't want his family being so outnumbered on the day (12 compared to 70).
My mum had suggested throwing us a celebration of our marriage at my parents house when we get back from our honeymoon, something informal like a big BBQ, for the rest of the family and a larger group of friends.
What are everyone's thoughts on this? We've talked ourselves in circles discussing it. I don't want people thinking we're rude doing that or being cheapskates by not inviting them to the wedding but it's not our budget that makes us want to have something small. I just don't want to offend anyone but want that venue so much, it's everything I've always dreamed of. Maybe there's no way to avoid offending people or maybe we should just suck it up and have a larger wedding.
CommentAuthorEmily17
I was going to suggest your moms idea if I'm completely honest. Your day should be what you want and what makes you comfortable. Not what people expect. Cut down people from both sides. say no cousins from either or however you decide it, just make sure its fair for him not having some family there as well as you.
With regards to his family being outnumbered, we are in the same predicament. The way we have looked at it is after the wedding everyone will be both of our family. He knows all of my family well enough, in fact he knows my family more that I know his. I haven't ever met his aunt/god mother.
If it is people who matter to you who you want to share your day with then go for it. But if you did want all of your family there, you will find a venue you love just as much I'm sure

Thanks Emily. We know that the small wedding is perfect for us, and our parents are both happy with that, if my mum or dad were upset about aunts and uncles not being invited to the day then that would be a different matter. At least I have plenty of time to discuss with my mum about possible post wedding celebrations. But for now the plan is to tale the parents to see the venue someday in the next few weeks, hopefully they like it as much as we do :) xoxo

Glad you have made up your mind. And personally, I think it's the right decision.
If you and OH love it then go ahead! (same reason as before.. its your day)
you could do a slide show of pics of the wedding at the party to make them feel more included perhaps?
