So on my lunch hour at work today I called into the bridal shop to book in my alterations and to arrange for the bridesmaid dresses to be made, just thought i would double check on the price for the bridesmaids dresses, she told me there had been a £30 increase and that they were going up again in 2 weeks time. Im astounded I already paid a 30% deposit a few months ago and I just cant believe It she expects me to pay more for them than when I secured the dresses......

Sorry for the rant ladies, just needed to get it off my chest lol xxxx

I can understand the 1st £30 increase with Vat etc (even though the vat wont be that much) but to put them up again no way - I'd refuse personally to pay it - whp's to say she won't put them up for a 3rd or 4th time??

I totally agree, i would feel the same! You think because you booked them and paid a deposit before the increase she should leave them at the price she quoted. Something similar has happened us with our wedding venue, not impressed at all! x

Well the dresses were only £120 each to begin with so £30 is ridiculous, I am having my dress altered there so I am tempted to not to purchase from there at all. Unless she agrees to settle with £120 + vat increase of 2.5% x

Did you have a contract or a price in writing? She may be able to argue that it wasn't set in stone - although I still think it's wrong. xxx

Thats what I thought, had problems with her previously over my dress she gave me the one from the window and all the crystals had fallen off so I had to kick up a fuss for her to get me another one, I think she might be a bit dodgy lol xx

i cant work out why they have gone up by £30 with the VAT increase ......£120+2.5% = £123

even if your price ex VAT ...then 20% added on brings it to £144 not £150

I would say if you have an invoice stating the price for the dress you deposited on then she can either just charge you the 2.5% vat or if she doesn't want to do that then she should give you your deposit back as it states vat increase not price hike!

Yer surely you can't just up a price after one has been agreed.
I think people think that cos its for a wedding they can charge what they like and they think people will pay it cos its their special day! How annoying for you and wrong on her part.

thats not in def if you have a receipt which says the price. fair enough about the vat increase but that much is just stupid!! i would go and speak to her and take the receipt with you but make sure you dont let her keep it as then you have no further proof

I know how that feels - kinda makes you want to book things and have them delivered to your house so you can take it to your venue yourself and not pay the stupid amounts they charge just cuz its going to a wedding - stupid suppliers and stupid cow who you are dealing with Gemma for thinking you would be daft enough to just smile and hand over a cheque book

Hope you resolve the issue soon hun xxx

Hi ladies, well been down to see her and shes agreed on the original price without even putting the vat increase on which I am more than happy with she has also offered me half price alterations on my dress. Cant complain with that really. she said that she wasn't aware that we had agreed a price (even though the details were all on the computer) she apologised profusely.

Soooo chuffed saved me some money too :)

Thanks for all your advice xxxx
