Firstly, congratulations on your engagement and welcome to the forum! I would sit down with your OH and think about what kind of budget you will be looking at - will you have enough time to save for the day that you want? When you have a rough idea of the sort of budget you're looking at you should start looking around at venues. Although we did it a bit backwards in that we chose our venue first and then from there worked out our budget around that.
Also spend lots of time on p1nt3r3st and inst@gr@m etc. looking for lots of ideas! xx

I second what Flossie has said. Discuss with OH budget, decide on a rough date/time of year/month and then start looking at venues. From there you can get a clear indication of costs and other things needed etc. p1nt3r3st and local wedding fairs are full of ideas and information too!
Congratulations and happy planning!! xx

Hi Stacy, Congratulations on your engagement x I agree with Flossie, start with your budget. Also do a first cut guest list of definite, maybes and would likes so that when you go to venues you can get a feel for what you can afford there. you might be able to get a wonderful venue but only half the people you would like there or a slightly cheaper place with everyone there. then its a tossup

Hey Stacey! congrats on the engagement and welcome to UKbride!
It will be overwhelming at first but makesure you have a good idea of budget and what you can save as you go throughout the next two years which will help you with decide on what your budget is for venue. Visit venues and take your time. Ask for who would be your point of contact and what packages they offer. Whats their contingies for any situations. Do they provide their own staff or do yoou need to staff it.
After that everything just kind of falls into place.
Remember to take your time and enjoy the process. Don't overwhelm yourself. My OH and I challenged 1 thing a month or two.

Hello and congrats! Like the others have said, first come up with a budget (but be realisitic as it may change when you realise how much everything actually does cost) and prioritise the things that are most important to you. Decide who will be paying for what (i.e. ask parents if they plan to contribute or if you are paying for everything yourself). Then its time to start looking around for things you might like, use wedding blogs and google searches in your area :) xx

Hello, welcome to the UKBride family. Budget and venues are the first things to sort, and a vague idea of guest numbers, as that is something alongside your budget that will determine your venue. Once you have your venue you can set your date.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

Hi Stacey- I too recently engaged and this wedding malarkey is still scary stuff- I love these UK bride forums as they have so much useful information as its great for ideas, what issue people have etc.
I got engaged in April, we went to a wedding fair in May and it scared us both- it was at a hotel and we were boarded by Lacey, flowery, tacky thugs and people asking have we booked this have we booked that, you NEED to do this and that- it sooo put us off for a while.
We then sat down with a big sheet of paper and did a brain storm diagram (like you use to at school) it was such a fab way or getting thoughts down and looking at ideas what we both wanted and finding a middle ground.
I think the biggest thing is not to get stressed and to anything bug you- there are far too many people on here who seemed way too stressed and anxious and uptight about silly things that it doesn't seem worth it.
I guess I'm a pretty happy go ,icky care free person so kinda helps.
Welcome and look forwards to chatting more :-)
