So, I'm thinking about getting a dress which isn't white. Firstly I don't look good in it, and secondly I don't want to subscribe to wearing white because I'm pure and virginal on my wedding day (as I'm not). My mum is supportive of this, but I'm not sure what my H2B's family will think of it. Is anyone else going for a colour other than white? I'm looking at some pretty stunning prom dresses, which are hundreds of pounds cheaper than the equivalent wedding dresses.

not a lot of girls go for white these days as it doesnt suit most of them... most likely they go for ivory/cream/champagne... friend of mine got married in red (5years ago) ... liking the idea though but to be honest haven't found a dress which I like which isn't going to be in any of those said colors (tried one which was cream/rose very pretty though)
if u wanna go for it go ahead its lovely thinking and tbh it reminds me of something which has been said in comedy roadshow as women threw themselves in a white dress and play the virgin whole day long :D made me laugh but yeah so true :) go for it hun!!!x

I completely agree hun, I am marrying in Violet!

I was slightly worried what my inlaws would think, but luckily they support my decision and hopefully yours will too! You have to remember though that this is yours and your h2b's day, so as long as you are both happy they should be too! explain it to them but don't make a big deal about it and they probably wont either!

    I hope this helps

    Much love Lili

    xx

i don't think it matters. i originally wanted my dress to be champagne or gold. but was given a vintage cream lace wedding dress i loved from a friend, i wouldn't have taken it unless it was perfect - i love everything about it :)

choose the dress you love - don't worry so much about the colour. if you are happy and confident with your choice everyone will notice how stunning you look on the day :D xxx

I'm having white as we are having a black and white theme. But have what you want - pink, green, red, orange, gold, silver, brown, whatever! You need to wear what you'll feel comfortable in and don't worry about what other people think x

I'm planning on an ivory dress with sage or teal accessories and trim. A lot of people don't wear white these days and I can understand why. White doesn't suit my skin tone (even with my very light fake tan it washes me out) and I would worry all day about staining it irreparably.

I'm wearing white as we're not doing a lot of things traditionally but I've always wanted a white dress for my wedding - since I was a little girl. I'm not pure and virginal either (we have a 17 months old daughter together) and I was worried about people thinking it was wrong of me to wear white, but at the end of the day I'm not getting married in a church so I don't think it really matters. I think if you want to wear a different colour then you should - it's your choice and you should be able to wear what you want x

I'm having a silver/blue dress and it's gorgeous. Shame for my H2B as his fave colour is white but hey ho not his choice!! I wanted something a bit different yet special at the same time so I'm well chuffed. Unfortunately though someone let slip that my dress isn't white to him and although he said he dosn't want to know to her she said it again, so now there is a little part of me that wants to order a white dress now. But mines already half paid for and being made, just wish I hadn't been so trusting with the information now though! :-(

So if it's a surprise for your H2B be careful who you tell xx

I also dont think it matters what colour dress you wear aslong as your happy and comfortable with the dress you choose thats all that matters :)

I havent gone for a white dress, The one Ive chosen is a hazelnut colour. I personally wouldnt go for a white dress either, If I hadnt gone for that dress I usually would prefer Ivory/champagne to White.

    Sarah xx

    Planning to perfection

I had an ivory dress. I was going to have a red Chinese style dress, and have the bridesmaids in Chinese style dresses too (in dark blue so color scheme was going to be blues), but one of bridesmaids was awkward and said she didn't want to wear a Chinese dress as she doesn't like clingy shiny material and doesn't like high necklines.

The dress I've bought is red, but I'm rethinking it now. I bought it off Ebay as a bundle with a load of other stuff (bridesmaid dresses, shoes, veil, pageboy's outfit etc) and I'm waiting for it to arrive now so I can try it on.

My dress isn't white, it is oyster pink with ivory tulle under the skirt. I was worried my h2b would hate it as when he found out it wasn't white or ivory he overreacted thinking I was going to wear red or black and make our church wedding into a theatrical performance! I had a shout back though and told him it was a lovely dress and did he really want to see it to shut him up. It worked, he shut up, lol. Everyone that has seen it has said it is lovely and suits me, my MOH even said that I am not traditional and a white classic dress wouldn't have worked for me. You have to go with what feels right for you and everyone else can just take a run and jump, you are the one wearing it and who will have lovely memories of wearing it. xx

It doesnt make any difference what colour you decide on wearing and i shouldnt think your H2bs family will be bothered if you decide not to have white, alot of brides decide not to have white, Its your dress at the end of the day. x

My dress is red. Although I did try a White dress that was nice, it's not really me. my friends never expected me to wear White, nor did my mum or sister. H2B's parents are v old fashioned but colour of dress is a secret so they won't see til I make my big entrance! H2B doesn't know what colour, he thinks I'll turn up in a "fitted cream dress without much bling" ... He is sooo wrong haha... I have a pic on here that proves it.
Wedding dresses are very personal, I think it's important to wear what you want and love rather than a dress you think you should wear xx
