    Hello Everyone,

Im a newbie and got engaged a couple weeks ago. I want to start with my wedding plans straight away but have reached our first snag at the first hurdle and would love some advice!!

The Venue for the reception.... we have visited a couple venues and have become stuck. Theres a venure about 12miles from where we will be getting married which is perfect and would love to get married there. Then theres another venue which is only a mile away from the church, which is lovely but.... it feels like it doesnt match up to my first choice.

My partners mum has recommended the 2nd choice so that people dont have to travel as this can be a bit of hassle when it comes to the guests leaving early due to transport in the evening do.

What are everyones thoughts. Have the wedding a bit further away and risk the fact people would prefer not to travel and may have to leave the evening do early due to transport, or have my 2nd option to avoid this?

    Thanks

    Emma x

At the end of the day it is down to what you both prefer, if you prefer the further one then go for it. You could always look at providing a coach for coming home, don't go for one in which you are not overly pleased with compared to another .

If you both prefer the first one then go for that, it is your wedding day so you should be somewhere you love. 12 miles isn't far and I am sure people wouldn't mind travelling. If you have the budget to provide a coach to take your guests from the ceremony to the reception then that would be a good idea.

Go with what YOU want. This was our first hurdle too. We fell in love with a venue 60 miles from the church, it was/IS perfect and very 'us'. When we spoke with family about it there were lots of noises about it being too far away etc. Whilst I understand it's about an hours drive which is awkward for people not wishing to stay or for elderly guests, we just had to be selfish on this one and book it.
If you start arranging your wedding around other peoples opinions you will end up not having it the way YOU truly want.
Also most folk are excited about our venue (it's on an island in a lake)and want to stay because its over a bank holiday weekend, also they said the journey will make it fun.
Go with your first venue, 12 miles is NOTHING!!

I think you should definitely go for what you prefer and not settle on second best just because it might suit some of your guests better. It's YOUR day, you need to do what makes you happy :) 12 miles is hardly anything, I for one would definitely be willing to travel that distance for a wedding of someone I cared about. Everyone who wants to be there will be there xx

We are on the verge of holding the ceremony and reception 50+ miles away from each other! If guests don't want to travel they don't have to attend!

A lot of family members don't drive so we are more inclined to provide transport in the means of a coach to the ceremony and then onwards to reception where the main pick up would be from.. Maybe that could be a option for you?

12 Miles?! She is moaning about 12 miles?! I was Sooo close to booking a venue 3 hours away from home, but decided not to because of the evening guests! She should be lucky you're happy with a venue in your area!
You could hire one of those Vintage buses to shuttle people, it shouldn't be too expensive either as it's so close!

I really don't think that's any distance to travel at all. No one should have any issues except maybe none car drivers. X

12 miles isn't far. Probably works out at 5 -10 mins in a taxi home. People will make the effort, don't worry x

Offt my venue is about 35 miles away from most people its 26 miles from my front door and the rest of the family live further away at the other side of Glasgow and beyond. Alot of people have booked into the hotel for the night of the wedding and im also putting on coaches, I LOVE our venue and there is no way we wouldnt get married there, if people dont like the distance then tough

12 miles is nothing , what is that 15 mins in the car. My venue is 15 mins away and no one had voiced any issues. All the venues closer suck.

Our venue is about 30 mins away. Granted the whole day is in the the one venue so guests won't need to hop in the car twice, but still, 12 miles is nothing and your guests shouldn't be bothered by that at all.

It's nice to get out of your locality sometimes and go somewhere different. For us, it was really important that we got married somewhere a bit different, away from the sights and the roads that we see every day xx

I don't think 12 miles is far at all and ppl will travel it as they'll want to be part of your day. Our venue was 30 miles from home and we didn't have anyone let us down for the day, a couple did for the evening but we still had a great time x
