So I was reading a few of the discussions in this category and this seems like a fantastic idea. Even if noone is interested in reading it or bookmarking it; this is my diary for my Big Fat DIY Wedding. :) I hope you enjoy it x
So me and my fiance have been engaged for nearly two years now and have been planning different aspects of it since then.
We've decided to make as much of it ourselves as possible, and while the decision was at first just a way to save money, even if we won the lottery I'd still like to make it all by hand :) It'll give everything more of a personal feel and we can add touches throughout that mean something to us.
So we're going for a pastel vintage wedding with little added details of things with like. We'll probably come up with a theme to tie it all together and just add little vintage touches rather than just having a vintage theme (if you know what I mean).
We're making the invitations, save the dates, RSVPs, table plan, place settings and order of the days. We have tons of ideas for decorations - so many in fact that we'd both love to have a barn wedding so that we'd have a huge space to decorate and personalise. I'm going to make ''will you be my bridesmaid?'' packages for my wedding party to be and books for each of them to keep notes and jot ideas in. I'm making the bridal party jewellery and bouquets, as well as extra touches to my outfit ( ''I DO'' beaded in blue to the top of my white stockings, hairpiece made by hand).
I run a business page on facebook and cannot wait for nearer my big day when I can showcase all these makes over there and offer similar items to future brides.
I'll try and see if I can add some photos of some of our ideas to my next post, but this will do for now <3 xxx thanks for reading xxx

Sounds great. I do envy people who are arty and can do all this stuff themselves. MIL is good at that kind of thing which is useful.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

I'm not doing quite that good, but I have done my save the date, and invitation cards by hand! It just makes it that much nicer knowing they made the effort not just inviting you! Hope goes to plan :)

Getting married in 9 years

Ok so I found a list of basic 'stuff' and thought I'd add this to my planning xx - Venue - Still trying to find somewhere. Ideally we'd love a barn that we can decorate the entire inside and get married and have the photo's outside
-Music - I am in love with the line up Bruno Mars has for 'Treasure' and would love a similar style band (I'd love them but I doubt Bruno would be free lol)
-Wedding Cake - H2B is a fully qualified chef and cake decorator and has his heart set on making it himself
-Groom Suit - He already has an expensive suit he said he can use (I'm almost 100% certain that it's the suit from his first wedding so we'll be have a conversation about a new one at some point - I'd also he rather get a grey one as it'll got better in the pastel scheme)
- Ushers, Best Man and FOG, FOB Suits - can't sort these until his is sorted really as they'll need to match, plus we haven't decided on bridal party members
- Bridesmaid Dresses - I've found the dresses I want and my mummy is making all the dresses so it's just a matter of getting the right fabric in the right colours.
-Photographer - Have had a look at a few, can't book anything for definate yet anyway
-Flowers - Making a mixed-media bouquet for me (mainly brooches but with some foam flowers, some fabric and maybe some fresh) and making button bouquets for the bridesmaids. Need to decide on button holes.
-Stationary - Making our own save the date magnets, pocketfold invites, evening invites, menues (if needed), place settings, table plan, table numbers, order of the days and any extras too
- Transport - Can't really sort it until we've found a venue but I'd love to hire an aston martin or something similar for H2B to drive after the reception to take us to our overnight venue
-Registrar - Have had a look at a few -Notice - Ceremony Fees - Certificates......need to look into these! x
-Honeymoon - Would love to find somewhere with white beaches, gorgeous blue water and would prefer to rent out a 'house' rather than stay in a hotel.
- Dress - Mummy is making my dream dress :) victorian feel to it with a rainbow pastel petticoat!!!
-Bridesmaid Gifts - Making ''will you be my?'' packages for before all the planning etc, ''planning scrapbooks'' for them to keep, making their jewellery (and mine) for the day, and have to decide on a gift to make for them for after
-Best man and ushers Gifts - need to decide on
-Parents of the bride Gifts - have a few DIY ideas already
- Wedding Rings - haven't look yet (I think he wants to buy me a new engagement ring once his divorce is finalised and then we can get the real planning started)
-Favours - Thinking of different ideas. We'd love charity pin badges as we've lost a few family members and it'd mean alot to us. I also like the idea of chocolate bark or hot choc cone depending on people's preferance (we'd ask on the invites)
-Hair and Make up - I've found a few quotes including trials and bridemaids. My sister and oldest friend (both MOH) would also need trails as they both have sensitive skin
-Venue Decoration - SO MANY IDEAS!!!! lol
-Wedding Insurance.....someone wanna explain the importance of this to me please xxx
We're also having a sweet buffet, two alternative guestbooks, memory table and photo 'booth' all of which we're making ourselves. And we'd really love to hire a seaside doughnut machine and maybe a hog roast (H2B loves them!)
I think that's about it....can't wait to upgrade to a power user so I can add photo's to this!!!

Well having a dress maker and chef in the family is certainly going to save you a lot of money.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.
H2B is a pretty good photographer too but can't be behind the camera and in front at the same time lol x Both of them are so amazing too - my mum once made me a huge ballgown still costume with petticoat in an hour x
