    Hey all

Sorry but i need your help yet again (whoever said wedding planning was easy?)

Well my sister in law is wanting to play the violin at the wedding and i have now agreed (it would be when we are signing the registar)

However she is wanting to play pachbell canon in D but i have told her i cant have that as thats what i had at my 1st wedding when i walked up the aisle. I seen her again last night as she had said she would try and look for something else, so when i asked her she says she is struggling as thats all she knows and can play off by heart. So H2b says he doesnt mind and its only a piece of music but im not sure and what would my family think? Or am i looking too much into it? what do all you lovely ladies think?

I can see where you're coming from. I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable with having the same piece of music. However, it is a beautiful piece of music!
Your sister has 7 months to learn another piece - that's plenty of time. I'd pick something else, personally x

Personally.. i wouldn't. Marrying someone else would be a fresh start and id feel a little awkward. Probably H2b would too even if he wouldn't admit it :/ x

That's what I'm walking down the aisle to :) I would ask her to learn something new, if it was me, I wouldn't want to be reminded of my previous wedding, but it's entirely your choice, go with what you feel comfortable with xx

Does she have to learn it off by heart? Can she not have a music stand? What's her fave piece to play (apart from the aforementioned)?

Thanks ladies i really wasnt comfortable with it, but she kept going on last night about how this is her only piece of music she knows etc and when i said we dont want to put pressure on you or cause any stress (there is enough already believe me) so if u dont want to its fine it she just came across as she was like kept going on about doing that piece as its so beautiful and its only music etc etc... thats when h2b piped up he didnt mind.

But i think im gonna say to her look if you dont want to do it anymore thats fine or learn something else but im NOT having that!!! lOl :D

I agree with LK, she has lots of time to learn another piece.

If you really want Pachelbel's Canon then fair enough, but saying it's the only one she knows isn't really a good enough reason....I'm sure she wants to play what she knows best so it's perfect for your day, but a simple piece can be beautiful so seven months is loads of time.

If she can manage Pachabel's Canon, which isn't easy, she'll be capable of plenty of other pieces. She'll probably need more than one piece anyway, as it'll be ten to fifteen minutes with photos. Meditation from Thais would be a good one to use, and maybe some Bach. Unaccompanied Bach would be ideal as no rehearsal would be needed. Settings of classical songs work well too. You could go to your nearest music shop and see if they have any books of wedding music for violin, or even just popular classics for violin. As for memorising, I can see why she would want to memorise, as I play the flute and I like to memorise everything, but as harsh as it sounds, people won't be watching her that closely however beautifully she plays, so it's not essential.

Agree with Elinor, she has plenty of time to learn new music. I'd be tempted to spring for a couple music lessons. I personally couldn't imagine having the same music in two weddings (unless it was to the same man).
