    Hi everyone,

I'm currently planning my wedding for summer 2019. My mum has offered to give me her old wedding ring to use for my own. At the time, I panicked and said yes as this idea had been suggested to her by my granda and I felt bad refusing something that is clearly important to her.

However, as time goes on I'm wanting it less and less. It is a beautiful ring, but not my style. I have seen a beautiful 9ct gold patterned, delicate ring that would look lovely with my 9ct gold engagement ring. The ring she has offered me is 22ct gold and rather chunky so would not match my ring at all. I'm also worried it's 'cursed' as her marriage to my dad ended in divorce. How do I let her down gently?

If she doesn't mind couldn't you suggest it doesn't go with your ring but you would have it melted down and made into a ring that does? Then its still her ring but more your taste. xx

More and more things will get pushed on you as time goes on. You need to learn to say no. Let her down gently then discuss something that makes you both happy x

I was also going to suggest have it melted down into a style you would prefer.

Saying that, if it's 22ct, it's much softer than 9ct gold and over time it may get damaged if worn with your engagement ring.
