When we met with our vicar it was fairly relaxed and we mainly went through the order of service so which really helped to explain what happens when and we discussed readings and hymns. It was quite useful because he had a few suggestions as we only had 2 hymns we liked and he advised having 3. You do need a bible reading so we've gone for one of the most popular ones (Corinthians v1-8 &13). He may also be able to put you in contact with the people that do the church flowers as they may try to do that weeks displays in your colour scheme or the bell ringers and organist if you're having them.
Try not to be nervous about it. He still puts his trousers on one leg at a time, just like you. X

My Dad is a minister (retired now), and I can assure you they're all very friendly and very human. When we met with my husband's vicar, who married us, we had a real laugh. He will have to ask you to state that you are single, or if divorced he will have to ask to see the decree absolute, that's something he has to do. Otherwise he will just make sure that you are happy with what will happen in the service, and encourage you to think about life after the wedding. He will also want to know if you know who the bridesmaids and best man etc are, who is signing the register, and for the purposes of the marriage certificate he'll need name and occupations for your father, the groom's father and the witnesses (if you've picked them).
I can tell you one story that my Dad told me, that shows how relaxed they can be. A young couple had a wedding meeting with him, and they seemed a bit nervous, which was understandable as they didn't attend church and therefore weren't used to dealing with clergy. Dad made tea and provided biscuits, and chatted through everything with them, all very relaxed and informal. They were still nervous, and at the end Dad asked them if there was anything they wanted to ask that he hadn't covered. She said, yes, I'm pregnant, does that make a difference. He said yes it does, sounding as if it was a massive issue that they'd slept together and got pregnant before marriage, then said, it means we need to get you down the aisle before you pop. Instantly she relaxed, it was just a shame she'd left it to the end of the session to say what was worrying her.

As we are having a different minister (he used to be the minister at the church we are marrying) we are having to Skype as he lives quite far away but says there is quite a lot to go over! I am just so so nervous I know it's not like an interview or anything like that but nervous all the same, We are generally quite Shy people as well and get a bit flustered we also have two young children and have been together since high school (12 years) so a bit worried he might question why we have waited so long to do it etc anyone had a bad experience with their minister? Thank you ladies my uncle is a minister Ellinor might have to get on the phone to him and ask lol! Xx

The fact that you have waited a while is far more likely to be a positive than a negative. Too many couples rush in and get it wrong, a minister would far rather see a couple who've taken their time. It's not just knowing you want to get married, it's being ready to settle into married life. Lots of couples wait until they're earning steadily and are happy that they are ready to settle down.

The worst part about meeting our vicar was he came to our house and we were all sat chatting round the table and then suddenly the cat threw up. Of all the times! I was so embarrassed but he thought it was funny so if it goes better than that you'll be fine! X

My friend's dog peed on a new minister's bag when he was visiting her. Fortunately he was a dog lover himself so saw the funny side.
