Hi ladies, just wondering how many marriage certificates you would recommend ordering? Just started to complete our online ceremonies arrangement form and part of it is asking to insert the number of certificates we would like. I know some people request to see original copies of the marriage certificate when changing your name... How many do you think I will need?

I only got the one then photocopied it for those who didn't need to see the original and those who did need it I either took it in person or it was returned very quickly so having just the one copy was not an issue.

Thanks ladies. So do the formal copies from the registry office also count as "originals" - or do you only ever have 1 original? I think I will order a couple just to be on the safe side - at £4 per certificate it's hardly gonna break the bank!

I only got one original. I made my own photocopies. I guess though if it's a formal copy from the registry office it will be accepted as an original.

I was thinking it would be nice to have one each Catherine.. although I've seen OH's "filing" system, it's not very organised so I think I would look after his copy!!! Lol x

I only got one original. Most places accept copies. I presented it in person at work and at the bank, then posted it special delivery for the driving licence and passport, which were the other two things that required the original. It meant I had to do one at a time, but there was no urgency with the passport, as I didn't change it until after the honeymoon. The driving licence and passport offices will send it back using a secure method as well if you ask, although you may need to pay a little bit more for it.

It didn't cross my mind about having one each haha.
I would have thought 2 copies so that you keep the original safe (in case of lost in post) and 2 to send off to change name etc

We have paid for an extra 2 certificates but that was with the church so whether 1 or 3 were the only options, I'm not sure. Feel safer having extra to send off in case it gets lost in the post. X

We got 3. It didn't cost much, and didn't fancy my chances of my credit card company losing it when returning it so got a few

I got 2 copies, so that if one ever got lost in the post i had a spare, if you request a duplicate at a later date it will cost you more £ than it would getting an extra one at the same time as original.

I think we got four in total, much easier as you can then send things off in the post to change your name quicker.

I think we've asked for two copies of ours. Just incase!! Though we requested it when we gave notice back in July so I can't 100% remember! Must actually get to the next set of paperwork as the date is rapidly approaching!

Good choice flossie! It was helpful too cos when we both had to change names and titles, we kept one here and sent the other off... The stress with knowing your one and only marriage certificate had been lost in the post would have been unreal I think so better safe than sorry! Not long for you now eek :D xx
