So, I might consider making our own invitations.. Only thing is, I have no idea where to start! I have added a photo of the invitation that I would like to recreate in my albums, but would want this in a pocket fold with an RSVP card, a directions/information card and a money gift poem card..

I guess the first question is, where would I find reasonably priced brown pocket folds? Once I have the size of the pocket fold, I guess I can then determine the size of the invites/inserts that I will need to make.

I know where I can get the keys from cheaply as have just bought some keys and locks for our favours. Twine simple enough.. also hessian and lace simple enough.. I guess the main thing I'm worried about is the actual printing. If I buy the card I can use the printer at work which is really good, but I have never done anything like this before so a little scared!!

Just had a look. They are gorgeous. For those, you could get some card, cut it to size and then use a printer to type up the information you want in the font that you want. Print that out and place it onto a different coloured piece of card. Craft shops usually have different types of scissors where they cut things with a patterned edge. A pair of those would be nice to put a little detail to the paper with the information in. Then once all the card and information is put together, you can glue that onto a piece of burlap and maybe glue a bow on using twine. You can get twine and burlap anywhere online but I got mine from the bay of e and at a bargain price too :)
I hope that wasn't too confusing! If you just break it down into sections it will all come clear though :) As for the pocket folds you can either find a template on the internet where you can make them yourself or again, craft shops will have them. The only problem with craft shops is that they may be a little expensive! xx

Yeah that does make sense Jessica :) I think I would be more confident just doing the single invitation, but it's the pocket fold that is confusing me a little.. as it would make sense to get the pocket folds first wouldn't it, so I then knew what size to make the invite and the inserts?

Alternatively, I could have all the bits and bobs loose but tie them all together with a bit of twine and make a 'parcel' out of them if you like? xx

I like the idea of the parcel. I was thinking of doing something similar for mine if my FMIL doesn't do the invites. It saves putting all the information on the information and bulking it up too much. And that way you could layer it up with burlap, lace, twine etc. I think its a very effective idea :)
But if you are wanting to go for the pocket folds, I would say you would maybe need to find out the sizes that they come in first, even if you don't buy them straight away and then you can start on making the invites :) xx

I find that is always the same KelBel, no matter how much planning you have done or how much you think you have got everything sorted, there is always something small which you manage to forget. Hope it wasn't anything big which you had to sort out! x

Yeah I think I actually prefer the parcel idea :) would be much simpler as well. Will speak to OH about it and see what he thinks - he loves those invitations anyway so he should like the idea!! Hopefully by starting them with plenty of time left it will be relatively stress free.. x

I was doing my key keyring favours with my sister two days before the wedding lol despite starting them 8 months before the wedding, the invites I got from etsy handmade in the usa , they were only about £20 more than if I'd done them myself, once I added up all her materials and I wouldn't have done as good a job as her lol x

    Here's hoping!!

I have taken the opportunity whilst I am bored at work to create a mock up design of an invitation - I have put a photo in my albums, called 'Invitation Mock Up'. What do you think?? It's not all centered properly etc. but what do you think of the general idea? I would probably back with ivory lace, then put onto a brown piece of card? xx

Craft of hobby shop has readymade pocket folds in various colors but I'm not sure how they work out price wise though, guess it depends how many youre doing. I've not got that many invites needed really as I have lots of families that'll allbe on one invite! So think I'll look about come the Jan sales and see if I make my own or not!

I think I have gone off the pocket fold idea now.. I think the 'parcel' idea would suit the theme better and is also much easier (and cheaper)! Thanks for the suggestion though.. I really should have a look round that shop at some point :)

Thanks Jessica! Oooh yes it might look better on cream card rather than brown.. I think I will order just a few bits and bobs and see what one invitation looks like before I go ahead and buy in bulk. Showed OH last night and he's not too keen on the pictures at the top so I will have a look around and try and find some different ones x

I literally just took an image from G00gle.. searched 'vintage paper', pasted it into word and stretched it across the entire page.. Looks like I haven't even used normal white paper. Got lots of other vintage styled photos from G00gle and shoved a text box over the top!! Easy peasy :)

I've also got access to a PDF writer so I can convert them into PDF to make the images and text slightly more crisp :)
