hi guys, to save a bit of money ive decided to make my own wedding cake.
ive buying a cake stand which has 7 tiers for £26.
it holds 120 cupcakes and the top tier can hold a 6inch cake. im wanting the top cake more traditional and will probably be a fruit/spice cake with a decor to match out theme.
the cupcake however are a little more confusing.
would you just have 1 flavour for all of them and if so what flavours would apeal to everyone. or do you mix it up a little and do different flavours?
i just dont know where to start with the flavours of my cupcakes lol xxx

I would mix it up a little but not too many flavours, maybe plain, choc and maybe lemon.

Yeah I agree - the lady who is making my cake suggests keep it down to two or three types of cake - less hassle for you that way too!

Just abit of advice. There is a 10 Tier cake stand on bay of e.. for £20 the bottom 5 tiers alone holds 100 Cupcakes.

When i sell my cake i generally suggest just the one flavour sponge then maybe a few different flavour frosting but letting people know the different flavour our hard hence why some go for all the same.

If your going for different i would suggest massively different. Red Velvet & Cream cheese would be a nice one, then maybe a chocolate selection and then a normal vanilla one too. That way everyone could tell the different types with too much hassle :) If you need any advice just message me. If you like i can upload a picture of the 10 tier stand as i brought it myself, and after the weekend is over with i can ever show you it set up at a wedding lol.

Yes, I am having a two-tier cake with some individual cakes on a tier underneath, fruit cake will be purple with white patterns and sponge will be white with purple patterns. Or something like that anyway!

Having made a cupcake wedding cake before for someone, i'd say consider a few things.. keep it simple, vanilla / choc at most for choices or just one, because doing 120 odd cupcakes takes quite a while, there is also storing them and icing them and being able to keep them somewhere once iced, at least if they are all the same it's a much easier process, and if you are doing it on a hot day also consider about fridge or cooled storage so your frosting doesn't start to go more liquid. one colour can look very striking and you can dress them up depending on your cupcake case or laces you can put round them. Have you thought of giving them as favours also? You could put them in the plastic boxes with bows on and have them on the tables and then just a few on the stand with the top tier to cut? Just an idea hun, have fun with it xx
