I have seen some gorgeous little articles on quirky gestures, home made gifts/decorations and themes - has anyone done this on their day? id love to add a personal touch but i'm not very crafty or imaginative, I'm sat here trying to think of ways of making the invites/save the dates anything other than plain and boring, any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I've made my own save a dates and invites (see my thread "my alice in wonderland wedding") we're also planning on making the table plan using MDF, wallpaper and I turn frames with a faint watermark of the characters in the background to match the picture that will be in the tables. I was planning on assembling the centrepieces but it's just too much work in top of what we're already doing.

We're planning on lawn games outside the pavillion our evening reception is taking place in as well as a vintage photobooth, chocolate fountain and sweet bar which will have a frog butler on the table with a white rabbit, melted clock etc.

For people to put cards in I am making a Hatters sewing area which will have his top hat on display with some sewing equipment and two hat boxes. The box in top will be where they out their cards.

I've planned a gift for my FMIL. Their wedding photos sadly got ruined through sun damage. By fibbing and telling her I am making a family gallery wall in my livingroom I've managed to get one of the wedding photos and I'm planning on getting it restored to its real colours which I will get framed and give her as a gift during speeches.

mine were more large quirky touches lol, it was pretty much all film, tv and video related

my invites were pretty plain, but they were doctor who themed lol, used some doctor who postcards for the RSVPs and the save the dates were just photos i printed off (also doctor who) that i then backed onto photographic paper

centre pieces were all tv related, i spent an unhealthy amount of time on ebay sourcing craft materials and various tv/film bits and bats, table names were clapper boards :)

Oh i made paper flowers and a tardis post box too

I wouldn't say anything we're doing is 'quirky' as such but we are having a go at doing some DIY stuff. We are making our invitations with a vintage feel.. I made the templates myself on the computer and searched vintage images on G00gl3.. printing them off backing onto card, putting lace all round the edges and tying up into a 'parcel' using twine and tying a key onto the twine as well.

We are doing our own favours - sweetie jars. Will be tying keys onto the jars for women and locks on the jars for men (keys and locks are personal to me and OH - he has a lock tattoo and I have the key).

We're doing a DIY photobooth and also attempting to make my own bouquets as well. I think it's nice to add a personal touch where you can :-) x

I think the only thing that was totally personal to us was our wedding dance as it was two versions of the same song mixed together by hubby. A slow one to start with then a fast version, personal as it was his own mix of it.

We are having a comic theme running through our day as we both love comics and are a bit geeky.
We are making our own invites, plain gatefold ones with Marvel wrapping paper cut to size inside to act as a mount for the insert to sit on, and our RSVP cards are vintage comic postcards.
We are making our table plan as well which will also have the Marvel paper as a backing, and our Mr and Mrs for the top table is covered in comic book cut outs.
We have stamped out comic book pages for confetti and are going to have our table names as Marvel characters.
Our photobooth will be having comic style accessories to play with and our cake topper is being made so that the bride is wearing a cape and eye-mask and the groom will be wearing a suit with an Iron Man mask and chest piece on.
My garter has been made from Marvel fabric aswell.
H2B has a group of very close friends, and he and they are having comic related cufflinks, as well as my brothers too.
As my H2B HATES cake (weirdo!) so we are having a cheese cake (3 different cheese wheels) made for him as a surprise.

And as a nod to my grandparents I am having a photo of them on their wedding day added to my bouquet.

I'm still in the very early stages of wedding planning but I already have a few idea's for personal touches. As were getting married on NYE I'll be using this as my theme with a black and silver colour scheme. I plan on making the invites and save the dates myself but haven't decided on a "look" yet, all I know for sure is that I will ask guests to request a song with their RSVP.
For my table plan I am looking out for a interior door with the glass panels in, I will paint this black and frame each glass panel with fairy lights then use some panels for the table plans and the others I will fill with pics of h2b dd and I.
My table center pieces will be vases filled with branches sprayed silver, I will hang matt black baubles on these with each guests name written in silver (as a place setting) and leave a note on each table and a sharpy asking each guest to write a message on their bauble for us to hang on our xmas tree the following years.
Favors I'm still debating but I think I will copy a cd of our wedding songs (including all the requested songs from the RSVP's).
The other little idea's I have is using a trowel to cut the cake rather than a knife (h2b is a bricky) and making all my decorations although I'm not sure what these will be other than the center pieces.

Everything we doing is DIY apart from making the tables, chairs , Marquee, outfits, food and cake !! haha.. I have written the ceremony we having in the woods so its very personal to us which includes a stonewish ritual and my friend is officiating ( legal bit we doing at registry office at later date) all my friends and family know my love of champagne afternoon tea, so we having a sit down version, then hog roast later , my man loves a bit of Meat and is a keen huntsman so felt fitting . I have made up our own games for afternoon after the speeches, having a diy photobooth fancy dress box, bouncy castle, most of our DIY bits have glitter and feathers on them , I love glitter and believe in angels and feathers represent angels so that's personal to me, we having David Bowie songs and postcards as Table names/pictures as my man is a HUGE fan.. we having our first dance outside in the woods lit up by fairy lights and candles in jars .. in evening I will be doing a mad half hour DJ set with my favourite silly songs and will be making my friends do silly dance moves to it ! my list goes on and on for the things we making.. centre pieces, bunting, decorations, mr and mrs sign, flower garlands, photos hanging from the trees ..e.t.c... soooo excited !!

My MIL made all our wedding stationery with a logo that we came up with combining a treble clef and a heart to reflect the music theme. We also had a page bear, in the family teddy bear which the page boy carried in. Our favours were CDs of the music from the day with the wedding logo on them, and we managed to get a cake topper made in the shape of the logo as well.

We don’t have many different things, but a few personal touches

Cake – MOG – she made her own wedding cake! I am in awe of that..

Post box – FOB – he’s a carpenter for a living so this will be perfect for him to get his teeth into and make it personal for us :)

Invites/save the dates/thank you/favour boxes, table names/table plan – Me, MOH, BM, MOG, MOB, my aunt (let’s be honest it will end up being me and my aunt though. We have always been crafty making our own cards etc. it was a no brainer) we have the style that we want for invites etc. but not sure on save the dates or favour boxes..
Invites are pearlescent red pocket fold card backing (not sure on front decoration). Invite printed onto ivory with a bird punched top right. Then each of the pocket items will be printed onto ivory with the brid punched and backed onto the red so that the red bird will show through J

Table centres – Me & MOB – current thought is fishbowl with water jelly beads, waterproof tea lights and real flowers (I love gerberas but they are too post box red so having to think of an alternative). I would love proper flower arrangements but don’t think our budget will stretch that far.

Ring – I’m having the inside of OH ring engraved with the words – All my love now and forever. This was on a watch I gave him for his 21st, every card he’s had off me and will be on his pocket watch he gets for morning of the wedding

Music – in the church I am having my own organist – He’s amazing!!! Although he’s not met OH yet oops. Closer to the day will sweet talk him into arranging a choir for me too :) would love the day to be made special by the people I know. Plus means that people we can’t afford to come to the ceremony will be able to be there to make is special :)

Ring pillow – my favourite cushion OH made in school but he said we can only use it if I make it a new cover because I’ve snuggled the old one to the point its threadbare in places!

Flowers - Not sure about flowers at the moment. I want real but OH family are all hayfevery so might have to go artificial Boooo!!! Either way artificial I will definitely have a go at making. Real MOB is desperate to try (I’m just worried about getting the flowers the day before wedding etc.!)

Transport – OH would love an Aston Martin – if so we would hire for the day and FOG would drive us everywhere. That’s only if his Aston wins against my Rolls Royce though!

Ok – a lot of personal touches when you list it. that makes me smile!!

thank you all for sharing with me all your personal touches, they are absolutely adorable! i love the idea of the vintage theme, intact I've gone with that myself for my wedding, my date is december and I've found some beautiful themes for a winter wedding, my venue will be christmassy as we have discussed but I've found things such as frosted silk flowers and other gorgeous touches. I always dreamed id look like the victorian ladies in their dresses (i LOVE anything to do with that era) i wish i could wear a gorgeous dress every day. the shoes and small decorations i have chosen are all very vintage, even the wines we have chosen, my mum has offered to take me shopping to pick crafty bits to make some decorations and favours for the wedding, I'm so excited and will definitely be referring for all your beautiful ideas (if you don't mind my using them as an idea of course) x
