    So upset at the moment.
A few months ago we finally found the perfect venue. We had the quote finalised, everything sorted and ready to sign on the dotted line.
MIL agreed her contribution to the wedding would be to pay our venue deposit (£800). So we arranged for MIL and my mum to come down with us on Saturday to have a look around and get the deposit paid because this place books up 18 months in advance and I know they've had other enquiries for our date.
So today, h2b rings his mum to check she's remembered about Saturday. They had a chat and then h2b texts me saying his mum isn't paying the deposit! And she's known since before Christmas that she wouldn't be doing it but didn't bother to tell us.

So now it looks like we're going to lose our wedding venue and go right back to square one. Think I might go and have a good cry now.

oh no!! Aww, hun, I feel so bad you... You have very right to be upset, its a big let down.

Is there nothing you can compromise on elsewhere so you can still afford it? xx

I think that's very unfair too, but speak to your venue, our venue asked for £1000 deposit upfront which we couldn't afford so we asked if we could pay £250 upfront then have a date of may this year to have paid the rest of deposit ,so 5months to save the rest,we really didn't wanna lose our venue... They were perfectly fine about it,most venues will work with you if u explain ur issues and worries, they put in our contract to have rest of deposit paid by may 2013 so it was in writing...
Don't get upset, see what they have to say xx

Oh no, how unfair!!! Have you tried speaking to her and asking why? Maybe she needs the money for something else or has over sepent at Christmas? Would she be willing to pay a percentage of it and you pay the rest maybe? I agree with other posters best to speak to the venue and see if they can help. Hope you get it sorted out - don't give up hope!!!

That's terrible. Fair play if she can't afford it but she should have let you know. Hope you manage to work something out. Did she five you a reason or has she just changed her mind?

How very rude :/ as soon as she knew she should have told you. id be more dissapointed in that than her actually not being able to pay up.

Speak to the venue and let them know youve had a problem getting all the money together see if you can offer something now, and something later on if you can.

awww you poor thing!! Have you managed to get anything sorted?? Could the deposit not go on the dreaded credit card and be paid off asap or is it completely out of budget without help?

Can you speak to the venue? Like the other ladies have suggested to see if pay a smaller amount now.

I don't knw why but sure she would have a good reason why she can't give you the money? Maybe talk to your mil xxx

Get on the phone to your venue ASAP. Personally I would explain the story so they understand why the change. Then see if they can help.

I booked my venue just before Christmas and they wanted £1000 deposit. I made it clear I couldn't afford it, and we negotiated paying £250 over the next four months.

I think most venues would be willing to help, especially if they knew why.

Normally we would have been able to pay it ourself but had a horrid couple of months with car bills, vets bills and h2b having two weeks off sick which wiped out most of the savings so MIL agreed she would pay it as our present rather than us lose the venue.

I haven't spoken to her, I'm a bit too annoyed with her at the moment. It's not the fact she hasn't given us the money, it's just that she didn't tell us and then dumped it on us two days before.
Luckily, I rang my grandad last night and poured my heart out to him, we're really close. He very promptly told me not to be silly, we wouldn't lose the venue because he would think of something. Message on the answerphone later said he'd just put a 500 quid cheque in the post for us and he hoped it helps! I burst into tears, sometimes I don't know what I would do without my family.
We can make up the other few hundred and go and put the deposit down next weekend.

    Very relieved and very thankful!

Awwww, bless him! How lovely of him to do that for you!! I'm so glad that all is not lost for you, and am sure that the venue would have given you a little leeway.

I hope you patch things over with MIL x

Yay to Grandad!! What a legend!! :)

Thats not fair of her to let you down at such short notice, fair enough if something has come up and she can't afford it but she should have gone around it in a very different way!! What did ur H2B say to her when she told him?

Have fun on Saturday booking, very exciting! xx
