    Hello ladies

This might seem like silly question, but what happens to any wedding cake left over?

I have never been to a wedding that offers guests to take left overs home, but at the same time I have seen cakes that have only had the bottom tier cut up and served.

I will be having a 4 tier cake for my wedding, and I'm sure that the bottom and third tier will still be more than enough.
What is the etiquette for this, do I have leftovers boxed up and given to guests? Or do I take it home for me and the H2B to get fat on? Or would I give it to people who were unable to attend?

I would just like to know if I need to think about cake boxes.

    Xx

We were eating cake for the next two weeks LOL! I took some in to work but there were only 3 of us there, so that didn't touch the pile! Hubby also took some into work, which did make more of a dent, but apart from that, we ate all the cake PMSL!

i think my mum said its for people who couldn't attend....
think we are going to cut the cake before the evening do, and then all the cake for the buffet in the evening do,
because i think after eating a three course meal they might not be wanting cake when we cut it..
i think you just do which ever you want really..

Traditionally you save the top tier for your first born's christening cake. We're not doing that since we already have our son lol. We're just having 3 tiers but they are all different flavours so we're just going to cut it up and tell everyone to help themselves. And take the rest home for those who can't make it x

Oh yeah,. I forgot that! We DID save our top tier (removed all icing and marzipan etc. and shoved in the freezer) BUT we moved house last year and had to defrost the freezer and clean it, so we had to defrost it...and eat that cake too LOL!

We had a 4 tier cake too. Some guests just took some home with them in a napkin. The rest was either given to family which was devoured and the rest is in our freezer right now lol in sensible size pieces to enjoy when I feel like a bit of our wedding cake lol. Our top tier was saved as we want it for the christening of our first child whenever that may be when we get round to having kids x

The top tier will be served as well as its the gluton free option. The only reason we would be cutting up the bottom two, even though the bottom would be big enough, is because they are different flavours.
I think freezing the spare tier to keep would be too much of a hassle, as I'd have to find room in the damn freezer :-P

It looks like cutting it up and asking people to distribute it at work and to family who couldn't attend is the best option.

    Thanks xx

We're saving half of our top tier and 3/4 of our bottom tier and freezing it. We'll cut slices for non-attendees as and when.

We told the venue to save the top tier and only cut and put out half of the other 3 tiers as I knew I wanted to keep some at home for myself and also didn't want any being wasted, so many weddings I've been to and no one touches the cake and it just gets thrown away and I didn't want that to happen to our cake.

We had a 3 tier - half of largest tier got cut for evening buffet, rest came home with us the following day! Shipped loads of with family then anytime anyone visited it was cake and ice cream for pudding! Took us about 6 weeks to get through it all but was sad to see the last piece go! :( x

We have five tiers and they're all different flavours. The venue is going t be cutting it up for us to serve as dessert at the evening reception. I imagine we will still have around half of the cake left though. Im hoping people will volunteer to take some home with them cos I will get very very very fat eating all that.

The bottom layer is flour-free so is essentially a huge 14 inch round slab of chocolate truffle. Ill be humongous if i have to eat that alone!!!

i had a 4 tier cake all different flavours. we cut it and just kept the top tier to take home for just us.

the rest was cut up and left on tables for people to take as they wanted. i put a load of cake bags by it and told people to take as much as they wanted home.

hubby's parents took some to work as well and we took some of the top tier on our honeymoon with us and had it on the plane with some champers

Anyone who has frozen their cake? How long can you freeze it for & how did it taste? I had a strawberry marble cake last Christmas & froze it, but it tasted awful when it defrosted! What did you ladies freeze it in? Xx

You can freeze sponge but when it's defrosted more than likely it'll be pretty dry. I however have had luck freezing a really rich chocolate cake. Fruit cake freezes fine.

we had a 3 tier fruit cake, chopped the bottom up on the night and only about half of it went people were more interested in the cheap bar! So we dished it out the next day and the weeks after via work and cadets etc. We actually only cut into the top tier last week, but it didnt last long as it was a diddy 8 inch top layer!

Sponge cake will be hard to freeze... something more rich and dense that's not relying on air to be light and fluffy will keep better as will hold more moisture/fat! :)

we had quite a lot leftover which the hotel plated up and tin foiled for us.
we took it home and then i made up little packages for my brothers gf to take back on train with her, for my bro to take back to uni, for my now MIL & SIL (they were coming to collect some flowers later) mom kept some, we packaged up some for us to take on our travels for airport hotel - which we didnt get to eat, but luckily mom froze some for us :D
so thats now in our freezer!!

none of ours were fruit - white choc, sticky toffee & fudge! xx

Well originally we were going to have a mini-moon somewhere in the UK straight after our wedding, but we've decided that ut would be best to go straight hone to get everything ready for our honeymoon in Cambodia 4 days after.

So it looks like I'll be able to take some cake home to freeze after all. Thanks for your advice ladies xx
