I just noticed in someone's post on here that they had the option of a ceremony at 4pm then a buffet instead of the wedding breakfast/meal.

Was anyone else given this option at their venue?

I'm thinking it could solve a lot of my worry over who to invite for the day part of the wedding as I'm keen on just having family for the day but the venue's package asks for 30 people minimum for a ceremony and wedding breakfast. I could have my family wedding then just have everyone else together for a buffet and reception.

that sounds like a good idea - maybe try speaking to your venue and see if they're willing to do that for you :)

of course a venue would not offer this a first go. they get more money from a full wedding breakfast, but if you talk to them ,say you only have a limited budget and would prefer to skip the wedding breakfast, have a later ceremony and then have a buffet to save on feeding everyone twice.

Yep, we're getting married at 17:30 then straight into a buffet/evening do - our venue didn't advertise this but at our first meeting we discussed all options and what budget we had and they were happy to accommodate xx

Thanks for your comments! I think we should just have the people who we want for the day and not worry about making up numbers to fit the day package that the venue offers. They have an evening package with a higher cost per head for an evening buffet but with the complimentary rooms and drink so if we price a small meal individually per head for the day then it still works out well for our budget :) Phew, good to hear that other people have managed to customise their day!

Our original plan was to go for a late ceremony as well, our plans were for a 430pm wedding, then just an evening buffet, however, we would have still had to pay for the whole day at the venue (we got married and the reception at the same place), so we went for a slightly earlier ceremony of 3pm, it was held in the same room as the reception so from 330-530 we mingled and had pictures taken, the time went really quick. We did have to have a wedding breakfast buffet though as you can only have the evening buffet choice if you have an earlier wedding breakfast. I did not bother with canapes which we were going to but thought well if peeps have not eaten at lunctime that is not our problem!
