I have been so relaxed and cool about who comes to the wedding and who can't. But at 22:30 hours on Wednesday (literally minutes ago) I received a message from a couple who are friends saying they are really sorry but one of their sons has come down ill and they won't be coming to our wedding on Friday. They had planned to leave them with their parents, but now that one has a cold and conjunctivitis they aren't happy to do that.

I'm not a parent so will try not to be too judgmental here. But argh!!!! I have a day to go! Everything is done! Table plans, name cards, everything is paid. I'm feeling really frustrated! I now have 7 tables that seat 8. Due to an extra guest recently I have one table of nine. But now that this couple can't come I'll have a table of 6 as well. This doesn't match my OCD liking everything even. Lol!

Someone tell me to get a grip and it will be ok?

There's always going to be someone who can't come
    As a parent myself
I wouldn't leave my child if they were Ill it might just be a cold and conjunctivitis but kids go really poorly and ratty and hard for other people as well as parents to deal with
You'll have a nice day regardless but yeah just forget the whole number of people on a table lol

Do I spend the last day tomorrow trying to replace their empty seats? Or just leave them empty?

Personally I would see if there are two people you can bump up, you have already paid for two people to be there so someone might as well take their place! Do you have enough place cards so that you can change them? If not then don't worry, just tell the new day guests who they are replacing so that they know where they should be sitting xxx

Dawn, I can beat that. I was getting married at 3pm and we got told at 1230 that 3 guests would not be coming, yet they could have told us at least a day or more before hand as to their reason.

See if there are a couple of people who you think may like to be there and just tell them you've had a drop out and they were top of the list. I had hubby's aunt and uncle drop out 3 weeks before, however I was lucky at the time I had two people I really wanted there.

I agree about seeing if you can bump a couple up, but in the larger picture of your wedding day, it doesn't matter. What matters is that you enjoy yourself. The more fun you are having, the more fun your guests will have, and the better the memories will be. In 20 years when you are reminiscing about your wedding day, you won't remember the two open seats. Don't stress just enjoy being surrounded by all the people who love you and are excited you found your other half :)

Being apparently OCD myself, I can completely sympathise with you hunni, but hopefully when it gets to the big day, you will be too happy and distracted to notice? But I do agree with the others about asking some others if they would be happy to go in replacement? xoxox

Glitter fairy a few hours before the ceremony is harsh! Now that I've slept on it I'm feeling a bit better. I think I'll get H2B on the case of bumping a couple up. I had handmade luggage tags with ribbon and stamped names wrapped around a bunch of dried lavender for the name cards. They look lovely and it was a lot of work, but again my OCD won't let people have the wrong names, so I can remake just two this evening. I'll also have to re-print the table plan and fit it on the morning of the wedding but again I can manage that.

Thanks for your support lovely ladies. One day to go!!!!

There will always be a drop out or few. Just tell the venue so a place at the table is not set for them. We had 3 drop outs, they were on the table plan but the venue knew not to set them a table place.

Well we plan to bump up two single male guests. One of whom is lovely and I felt bad I couldn't get him in on the day, we spoke to him earlier and he was delighted to get the last minute invite! Yay. I'm currently in the hair dressers waiting to hear if the other chap can make the day. If so we should have filled their spaces. And I sent the couple that couldn't come a nice message saying not to worry it's not a problem (I didn't tell her I initially freaked out! Lol). So hopefully everyone will end up happy.

I'm sat in the hair dressers having my highlighted root re-done. All the dresses and things are at the venue waiting for me. It's less than 24 hours away.

    SO EXCITED!!!!

I would have taken a child's illness as a reason for guests to drop out ..

. I had a couple who told me that the husband had an important job that could only be done on the day of our uk wedding..and the wife ( mr lalas aunt) couldn't possibly come on her own . Later found out it was really bc the aunt found out she wouldn't be sat with her sister for the meal .

And my niece told me 3 days before that she couldn't get the day off !!

We had people drop out a week, the day before and a few no shows on the day.... We just bumped up people from the evening... Luckily we had people staying near in a hotel so we bumped them... Plus my sister wanted her boyfriend to come ( only had been dating a month at this time) and I told her he can come to the evening but if anyone drops out he be more than welcome to come to the day... So that what we did,so had a happy sister lol... As for the no shows on the day.. No one notice and didn't care, I was a little upset as one was my cousin and didn't even let me know but it was his lost lol x
Has we were planing who to invite, we put people who could only come to the evening ( due to limited seating ect) but who we would bump up if others couldn't make the day...and as I said a few booked rooms near by so they had to be bumped up putting in that much effort x
