Im new and ive been having a look through some of the other discussions and my heart has sunk a little... I have seen alot of brides saying that they have budgets of 10k plus and they are struggling to stay in budget. I have between 2000 - 2500 for the wedding and i am now worried this isnt going to do much at all :( any helpful suggestions and ideas would be very very welcome!!!!

EDIT - PLEASE LOOK AT THE CATEGORY BEFORE POSTING AND CHOOSE THE MOST APPROPRIATE FOR TOPIC , I HAVE CHANGED IT FOR YOU THIS TIME - MODERATOR

Lots of people manage to plan their days (and have the best day ever) with a budget similar to yours! Your day will be perfect - it's not about how much money you spend on it!

    Things that can cut costs:
    - Registry office rather than church/other venue
    - Hiring out a hall as the reception venue (can be decorated beautifully with drapes and lights if budget allows)
    - Cutting out the sit down meal after the ceremony and just going straight to the reception with a buffet
    - Go to a restaurant instead - ask everyone to pay for themselves. Or even go back home and have a BBQ?
    - Don't have to have a DJ - use a CD or an ipod docking station
    - Buying a dress second hand or taking a chance on ordering a dress from China
    - Make save the dates, invitations and all other wedding stationery yourself
    - Artificial flowers instead of real flowers - can even make them yourself if you are a creative/arty person
    - Ask local colleges if they have any student photographers instead of paying for a professional
    - Honeymooning in this country - or ask your guests to gift money instead of presents that can be put towards a honeymoon

    xx

You could also ask guests to bring a dish for the meal in lieu of a gift, and have a bring and share meal. If you're having a church wedding you could see if the church has a hall. Call in favours from friends with relevant skills; most people will be more than happy to help. You may know people who can make dresses, bake and decorate a cake, take photos, do a video, own a nice car, or are able musicians. The bay is good for affordable dresses, and bridal shops often have sample sales. I've known people do weddings for around £1000, so don't panic, it's perfectly doable.

30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

I'd love to take the credit for the idea but I saw it on a certain social media website haha.. It is a fab idea though and the photos will still have that professional quality! And the person taking them would be so eager to learn and get more experience. Can also do the same with hairdressers and make up artists x

    When is your wedding?
You could start to grow your own flowers for your bouquet and the decor. I have loads of my own lavendar that I will use and am intending on growing little tubs of wheatgrass for the centre tables.
Some people actually buy fake cakes to save money, friends I know had one last year, they just had a fake cake for photos and served a variety of home made cakes made by family and friends.
Once you have tried on dresses that suit you, you can check out loads of similar styles online and order one for a few hundred quid.
Catering and the venue is the biggest cost but some community halls would be cheap to hire and you can decorate it cheap enough, then it;s a case of a hot or variety buffet like others suggest.
I got my bridesmaid dresses online for £42 each and they are amazing!!
A lot of people might offer to buy something wedding orientated instead of an actual wedding present, we're saving tons by our friends and family offering to pay for or towards the transport, stationery, flowers and photography. Saved well over a grand right there.
Ebay and gumtree have some lovely centrepieces for sale as well.
Good luck, it CAN be done!x

It does all depend on the venue, guest numbers and even dates and days as weekends are more expensive and so is the summer months. If you shop around loads and of course on this site you maybe able to find right bargins and save on the ££££ .

Taking the time to look about with mean you can get stuff sorted and save money :)
