Hi, I'm getting married in December 2015 and don't know when to start looking for dresses. Some say I should wait till December this year and others say to start now in case it takes ages to order. One girl I know had to wait nearly 11 months as her dress didn't pass quality control before shipping so had to be remade..... Any advice?

I would start in December, I wouldn't start too early as your taste may change,or your shape may change. Your don't want to get a dress and not like it nearer your day. Xx

Just start early, I think when you find the dress you'll know, plus I've been told to allow 12 months by some bridal stores, once you know I think you'll just know, I fell in love with a dress so brought it and I'm getting married Sept 2016!
theres no harm in going for a look around. i think it depends on what your personality is like. do you often change your mind on things after you have brought it or impluse buy? if so then dont buy anything yet. but you could be one of those people that takes months to find the perfect dress. i dont think it would hurt for you to start having a look around and trying some dresses on and getting some ideas. you dont have to order it yet x

have to agree with Becky there's no harm in having a look around and maybe narrow it down to a few dresses that you really like. don't commit to anything this early but by all means have a look and in a few months you might see your dream dress hugely reduced for example! :) good luck x

I bought mine with 18 months to go and it took 10 months to be made. I only went in to try on the different styles but ended up falling in love with the dress! Xxx

I'd agree with Becky, you can start looking around now and get some ideas. It's also useful to get some idea of cost and budget. You might also find when you're trying on that you develop such a specific idea that you want to get something made, in which case you need to know in plenty of time. If you do fall in love with one you can always order it, but do consider whether you plan to lose any weight, as your shape might change if you do and that might make a difference to what suits you.

I put the deposit down for my dress last week, I'm getting married next August.
I saw my dress in Feb and tried on some different one's and ended up coming back to this one.... I am not getting measured until October though, so although my dress has been ordered it won't start to be made until then.

I want to lose a substantial amount of weight before I even start trying things on or it will be mortifying for me, so I am waiting until after Christmas at least, that will be a max of 18 months before hand.

I ordered mine 15 months before the big day, I looked around for about 3 months before I decided which one, I wanted to have plenty of time to get it in the shop and altered. My dress took exactly a year to get in from the states but I think that was due to it being a new style they had a large back order.
Go have a look if you see one you love get it ordered, if not keep looking until you do. no rush but bear in mind some style do get discontinued. Also once you've decided on a dress don't keep looking

I didn't want to start looking before the one year mark, but I went in march for my first look around and I ended up going home with one and it's been in the spare room since! I was hoping to try a few different shops but I had to get mine on the day or it would be gone as you couldn't order them x

From personal experience I would say not to start looking too soon, I am getting married October 2015 and started looking in January this year and just ended up really confusing myself.
In all honesty there will be plenty of dresses available a year before you get married (dresses dont change massively from season to seaon), I wish I'd left it until then, I now have my dress but in hindsight I would have rather left it closer to the time.

I started straight away just out of curiosity!I wanted to look around to see what styles i liked, what shapes, what fasten on the back button or lace-up? and also what colour, what neckline suits me most etc. Its alot to think about so as much time as possible. Also you only get to do this once so make the most out of it!!! :D

I got engaged March 2012- thought I had found the dress in July 2012 but changed my mind in October 2012 - deposit put down on a bespoke gown October 2012 for my August 2014 wedding- never too soon just be sure before you hand over money :)

I got my dress 23 months before the wedding and still love it!!! I didn't plan on getting a dress the day we went to just get an idea but when I tried it on I knew it was THE DRESS. Don't think theres such thing as too soon as long as you fall completly in love with it

I spent about 6 months looking online through pictures of dresses, and started trying them on in march. It took me a month to figure out which one I loved the most and I ordered it 2 weeks ago. I get married in a year.
There's nothing wrong with looking now, and if you find the one you love, but it! Chances are if you don't you might find one, then they stop making it and you can't find it again.
Good luck x

OMG I started planning in January, booked my venue in Feb, bought the dress in March from a UK supplier and planning everything else now for my July wedding (this year). I can't believe how far ahead everyone does everything! 18-24 months seems so long to be planning for one day!

It is a long time Kate, I can see both sides of it. My fiancé proposed at new years and thought we would get married this Summer, but I said I wanted longer to plan and went for next year... I'm glad I did as we fell in love with a venue and a band and a few extra bits and need the extra year to save up lol. So we've both said we're glad we went for next year as we're getting everything we want and noone has told us they're booked up on our date yet.... however, if we had booked for this year I'd be saying the same as you. At times I do think I wish we'd booked for this year...

It's amazing how many great venues had dates left, if you aren't too tied to a particular date. I'm loving the fact that we have to make quick decisions and move on to the next thing. This is coming from someone who usually takes ages to make important decisions. Otherwise I think I'd drive myself crazy trying to find the perfect everything!!

I started looking 14 months before the wedding. I was going to leave it until 12 months before but my sister wanted to start sooner so we did. It was nice to do when not under any pressure to choose something because time was tight. I didn't make a final decision on my dress and buy it until 10 months before the big day x

I'd suggest start getting ideas now then start looking in the autumn so you can enjoy the experience rather than feeling like you have to choose something because you're running out of time. It can take a while to find and decide on the one x

I have got 16 months till I get married and thought I had plenty of time it wasn't till I spoke to a few people at a wedding show they told me I should be looking now. I wanted to lose weight too before I started looking. I have booked an appointment for the end of June to start looking.

i bought mine almost two years before my wedding date. its a corset back so it was slightly too tight when i got it but the intention is to lose weight before the wedding which im managing to do but not quite quick enough for me at the moment
