    hi

so a couple of months after booking our venue we enquired about tasting some bits off the menu so we could decide on our final 3 choices! the venue emailed me back saying they don't do food tasting because they are confident that the food is of a high enough standard to just serve it on the day!
all my married friends got to taste the food! so I'm a bit gutted i won't know what anything tastes like until the day so its hard to make a choice out of the long list provided.
    anybody else's venue the same??
    xx

My venue do a menu tasting so that we can change anything we don't like or maybe a sauce etc is too strong (that's what they said to us anyway) also we are having 3 choices so let's us try some other things too.

My sisters venue don't do a menu tasting what they say is the food speaks for it's self and there is no need to taste it before hand

We didn't get a food tasting and it seemed that's lot of brides here got one included in their package. We justhave a set meal for everyone so we kind of had to get it right! We did mention it to our coordinator though and we paid £15 each and had our three courses with a different dish each and halved them to decide what we liked best. Before weren't we picked a menu each from what sounded the nicest. When we had our taster we ended up with one course the same as we thought and change two after deciding they were nicer. I do think it's quite important to be confident you and your guests will enjoy the food and it's fun too. Can you not ask the venue again, maybe say you're happy to pay and thatyou just want to know your going to enjoy the food at your wedding?x

thats a good idea april61 i will ask the venue if we can pay to taste some, it just concerns me that a lot of people on here have said that they chose the 3 they wanted but after a tasting completely changed their minds! and i think food is such an important part of the day it's what most people talk about after the wedding- after the brides dress that is lol :-)

Yeah I think ifyou didn't enjoy the food it would impact the rest of the day as you'd be hungry all night! x

That does seem a bit unusual to me. We had one included in our package as there were a few different options to pick from. We tried 2 of each course and 4 different wines xxx

We had a tasting as part of our package. We did change our minds on the starter, although we didn't dislike the one that had been our first choice we were allowed to try two each of the three courses, and our second choice was really nice. I would certainly prefer to try some of the food. It seems a bit cocky to say they're sure it's good enough, surely that's your call. If a lot of places in the area offer tastings it might be worth trying to haggle something.

We did have a food tasting session, we had 2 because the venue messed up the 1st one big time forgetting about my allergy so I could only taste 2 out of the 6 dishes.

My sister and BIL though didn't have a tasting session and the food on the day was AMAZING! I could not fault it, absolutely yum and everyone complimented it. That was a highly reputable venue.

That is wing if they are doo sure of there good they should not be worried about a trading, and different people have different tastes. If they said that to me would be like we'll if you don't give us a trading I week cancel, is not about you being confident, is about us being confident.

My personal preference is to have a tasting session, especially in my case where I have an allergy. It does mean you're not worrying about the most significant meal of your life.

Our caterer did do a food tasting but wanted to charge £50pp to do it, most tastings don't come free as they have to make up food for you out of their stock, it's normally at an additional fee unless it's been agreed in your contract ( but then you're probably already paying for it as part of the deal anyway so not really free). You should be able to offer to pay for meals that you want to taste but if you're thinking you want to taste 3-4 choices, the cost of the tasting may be quite expensive x

Ours comes for free but when looking at venues I did ask and they would all do one, but a couple of them would charge, although it wouldnt be the cost of the food as you got to try different dishes

I cant wait to go and do ours :)

I told my other half about this (he's a sous chef of a really well regarded restaurant ) and he was flabbergasted.
Is not about them having confidence is the clients having confidence. Some places do have free ratings but all should provide a tasting at request even if they charge for it,

Not all the packages that I saw included the food tasting, but it doesn't make any sense for me taht you're not allowed to do this. How can you trust something so important as your wedding food without knowing exactly what are you serving to your guests??? :s
