Is it cheeky to email a designer and ask for the dress I like to be made in a different material?
Or is this something the store stocking it should do?
Not sure on etiquette for this? But only thought about it after I sent the email lol.

I'm not sure if it would even be possible.. not heard of doing this before? If they were willing to do it, I assume it would be at an added cost. Alternatively, you could show the dress to a dress maker and see if they can replicate using a different material.

I've actually not heard of this ever being done? I've heard of adding things like straps etc to make a dress more bespoke which is what a shops alterations team does, but not for a dress to be made in a completely different material. It may be something a copycat or dressmaker would have to make for you.x

I've never heard of this being done, however I suppose it's worth a try but it would probably cost to get the different material. I would try looking for a dressmaker that could make you a copy of the dress, I don't know of any but I am sure there are lots out there that could do it x

Or maybe tell the wedding dress shop what material and style you are after and see if they can suggest something similar. x

i think if its the designers design they may get a little touchy... lool it possible...

if it was the case of being designed from scratch, i would assume you have more design input and so would probably be ok.. But i could imagine a designer getting a bit upset about wanting to change their design,..

But like the ladies said, probably consider noting the design and seeing if a replica can be made....

but then again.... you can only ask....

Like the others have said, if you don't ask them, you won't know. Either do it yourself or see what the store say. If they are not prepared to do it, maybe you can. At the end of the day if it is going to cost you more, it means a bigger sale for the shop.

Well they said they could change material, but at added cost. So at least it's an option.
But think i might keep looking at the moment.
And getting quote off dress maker good idea. If don't find anything in shops might do that :-) x

if the designer is main stream such as maggie sottero or amanda wyatt or mori lee etc chances are very slim that you will be able to change the material. however the higher end designers such as ian stuart and caroline castigliano you would be able to probably discuss change to an existing line xx
